You weren't comparing mozilla with IE. I was. The crib as you said is the pre-loader which doesn't exist for linux. Or m'be it does now, I read bout some gnome-systray based app. that does that. I will put forth a few(repeated) ideas to be shot down by u guys (hear ye Philip with single l) * how bout a generalized preloader that loads the most used shared libraries for (plug ur fav soft here ) before X starts up. Evolution does it when u open it the first time. Why not do it before that ?? Please for god's sake note that I don't mean the glibc or libc libs for that matter. I'm talking about the libs like say gnutls, libnss, libvorbis etc etc. which are not loaded by default. * advantage ? Snap opening times for our dear ol' mozilla, gaim, mplayer, xmms etc etc. * kde already does it. but the catch ? only for kde apps. So not useful. And please please don't even start about how fast mozilla-firebird opens on ur system. introducing myself

Hi all, I am Shiv Kumar from Mumbai. After hearing so much abt linux, I had the opportunity to use this OS for the first time at the World Social Forum's Media Centre recently. I am no techie though I am interested in alternatives to proprietory software. Am joining this mailing list so that I can learn more abt linux. rgds shiv kumar

I keep getting this error for spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7. i even recompiled without apic support I am using a7n8x-x mobo which is based on nforce

Hi Nachiketa, Well i guess u're using ext3 fs , have u compiled the module into the kernel or is it a loadable module ? Unable to boot the upgraded kernel

Hi, I have fedora core 1 on my computer, recently I updated the kernel from 2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp to 2.4.22-1.2149.nptlsmp through yum from redhat update site. After the update I am not able to boot the new kernel. The older kernel boots without any problem. The machine gives a kernel panic, with the last few lines of the display as follows: Mounting /proc filesystem Creating block devices Creating root device mkrootdev: label / not found Mounting root filesystem mount: error 2 mounting ext3 pivotroot: pivot_root (/sysroot, /sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 umount /initrd/proc failed: 2 freeing unused kernel memory: 164k freed kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. I have a Intel 865GBF Motherboard with Pentium 4 2.6HT processor 2Gb DDR SD RAM and a 120 MB SATA drive ST3120026AS and PATA ST380011A hard disks. I boot from the sata drive /dev/sda Please give me some pointers to look into to rectify the problem. Please also indicate if more information is required to diagnose the problem. Hi Abhir, Just a suggestions. In the time you searched, posted e-mail, replied to replies, you could have written the reader/parser library yourself. And may be released it under GPL and earned yourself a fame. :-) Amish. P.S. Just for a good cause. Is there a C/C++ library available to parse a configuration file and get the value of different variables specified therein? I know about gnome-config. Maybe there is something similar for Qt.
