U need to edit ur /etc/wvdial.conf file where in u need at add a entry as follows

[Dialer VSNL] 

Username = abc@vsnl.net 
password=XYZ
Phone=4404444
Inherit=Dialer Defaults
Stupid Mode=1

Now at prompt u just need to say $wvdial VSNL

and that shuld start ur connection
