depends which kernel and driver you using. Make sure you upgrade your kernel to 2.6, which has Advanced Linux Sound Architecture in lieu of the older sound system. It is completely thread and SMP-safe.

this is what my uname -a shows,
Linux dubba 2.6.12-10-386 #1 Sat Mar 11 16:13:17 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux
its ubuntu breezy.
any ideas?
