I am running gnome/RH9, and it has an annoying non-printing problem. When I bring up Print Manager (which turns out to be a gnome utility) it first says there are no printers and then helpfully asks if I would like to add any, using the Printer Configuration Tool. Upon clicking "yes", this comes up, immediately showing my HP DJ 840C exists and has a path already laid out. I can "Edit" this but there is nothing to add that I can see. When I close the edit box, I have the option to "Apply" the new settings, but even after doing so, the Print Manager fails to show me any printers.
While I can print a test page from the configuration tool, I can't print anything else, meaning no documents created or viewed in OpenOffice, or pdfs or pix.
How do I fix this problem?

Are you setting up openoffice to use the new printer? I think that is required.

Try manually adding the print command in the individual programs' printer setup.
lpr -P your_printer_name_label
