Can anybody recommend some good software in the area of cad/cam? I have tried qcad but it is not so impressive.

I am afraid cad/cam is probably the only ``weak spot'' in the free software space.
Good modelling software, like blender is however available. Blender is very flexible, and a team of good programmers ought to be able to add good CAD capabilities to it.

i found this site http://linuxappfinder.com/graphics/cad but still to verify how good linux cad packages really are.
