Some snips.
" The activists of Free Software Foundation of India have said that the lack of standards in matters such as keyboard layout, encoding and sorting is hampering the development of software in Malayalam. ...
Kerala could become a centre for development of such technology, he said. Mr. Arun said that the Foundation would be celebrating its third anniversary on July 21. Free software developed in Malayalam would be displayed at the VJT Hall on that day.
This would include a set of applications in Malayalam called Sopanam, educational application and free geographical information system and related applications (GIS-Morphix).
The Open Access Initiative, which stands for free availability of scientific literature and Creative Commons licences, would also be showing some of their short Hindi films and other works.
The Initiative is an extension of the concept of social ownership of knowledge propagated by the free software movement.
The Creative Commons licences permit people to use works of art and literature without severe restrictions. ""
Great work!!!

Any more details available ? program notice? Program timings ?
Sorry for the delay in informing. We wanted to organise the event jointly with IT Mission Kerala. In the last minute we failed in doing that. This made our job very difficult.
The event will be in VJT Hall, Trivandrum. It will be from 1 pm to 8 pm on 21st. In the evening there will be a discussion on copyrights and patents in various fields of human creativity. Dr R V G Menon, Dr M N V Nair, Anand Babu few other experts are expected for the discussion.
There will be an exhibition on free software. Organisations like C-Dit, CESS and Keltron are expected to showcase their work in free software.
In the event few creative works(films, documentaries, photographs, study reports) will be released under Creative Commons licenses.
Regards, arun.

The venue is VJT Hall. We had planned for an exhibition for the whole day, but a government function in the morning has intervened. So we will have an exhibition in the afternoon and a public function at 5 pm. We expect to have Dr. M.N.V. Nair (former Dean, IIM, Bangalore), Prof. R.V.G. Menon, Sri Anand Babu and Sri Ramkumar (MD, Keltron). There will be a discussion on the topic Copyright Laws and Society, followed by the release of a few works under a Creative Commons licence. The works include some writings by Sri Sundar, photographs by Sri Ravisankar, music by Sri Krishnaswamy (who conducted Carnatic Music lessons in All India Radio for thirty years) and the film 'Journey thus far' by Odessa Film Society. The exhibition will include posters on Free Software and computers showing Malayalam and a couple of other language desktops, and some Free Software applications.
Sorry that this could not be announced in the list earlier. For one, some of the details of the program were decided only yesterday (in fact the person who will receive the works under the Creative Commons licence is yet to be confirmed). And we have been frantically running around to fix up the program. As one of the organisers, I request our members to try and attend the function.
Once again, sorry for not communicating earlier.
