THE ADVERT in the May 2003 issue of Linux Journal was interesting. It said:
"Become a card carrying member of the Free Software Foundation. Your membership dues help FSF protect your freedom to use, study, copy, modify, and redistribute computer software, fight for rights of all users of technology, and defend the GNU GPL...."
But the $120 associate membership fee ($60 for students) could put it beyond the reach for many in the Third World. Could the FSF think of a special South Asian rate for potential members in this part of the globe? There's a lot of interest in your ideals here... but try not to price it beyond our reach. Thanks. FN
Exactly, it should be country specific. In India, FSF can charge may be Rs 200 for normal people and Rs 100 for students. I would definitely donate in such a case. Regards Arko

We are going to have membership scheme for FSF India too. We are just getting the things prepared before the announcement, such as a site with credit card processing, and an office to recieve cheques etc.

One has to make a proper plan to spend the money properly. That will help to pump confidence in people to donate more.
I think two catagories should be made: 1> People 2> Corporate Companies.
The minimum donation of a Company should be more than a donation of a single person.

Raising funds is an important goal of FSF associate membership. Discounts don't make sense. I think it would be more appropriate for FSF India to seek associate members in India with membership fees set according to the conditions in India.
