Just a clarification, while the FSD is trying out certain endeavours, I am
*not* a member of FSD nor am I a part of their planning committee.

I am confident that they will do that, we can help there too.

I agree and I volunteer for it.

We have started a wiki page for distributed co-ordination this campaign.
If you want to help out with this, you can sign up at the wiki page.
http://fci.wikia.com/wiki/Campaign_to_promote_free_software_in_karnataka
(The wiki at bangalore.gnu.org.in was not editable so I could not
create a page there)

I will post a mail to bmslug and I am sure they will be able to help
out in this very important campaign.

Dear friends,
Today I attended a meeting of Forum for Science and Development(FSD),
Banglore. They are planning 2 start a campaign to increase the spread
the awareness & usage of free software in colleges, schools and among
NGOs in Karnataka. The energy, motivation & the spirit in the FSD
meeting was very high even though they have slight misconceptions
about some terminologies. I hope our Friends like Vijoo, Vickram etc
on FSD can correct it soon . But I feel that this campaign needs a
lot of volunteers to achieve the goals. I think Free software
Community in Bangalore must support & help FSD to make this dream into
reality.
We can make use of our experiences in Spreading free software
awareness in Bangalore Colleges for this purpose. Even the students
become active through our recent campaigns on colleges like BMS can
also contribute a lot to this campaign.
waiting for your suggessions.

Subject: [blug-non-tech] Special BLUG Meet: March 10th
To: BLUG non-tech <linux-bangalore-non-tech(a)yahoogroups.com>
The Bangalore Linux Users Group is happy to announce a special event on
April 10th:
T h e O p e n M o k o P r o j e c t
Presented by
Sean Moss-Pultz and Harald Welte
Tuesday, 10th April, 4:00pm
Hotel Chancery, Lavelle Road
Bangalore
OpenMoko (http://openmoko.org) is the world's first integrated Open Source
Mobile Communication Platform. OpenMoko is supposed to run on all kinds of
Linux-capable mobile phones. The first fully supported OpenMoko phone is
the FIC Neo1973.
Sean Moss-Pultz of FIC is the Program manager and driving force behind the
project.
Harald Welte is... ummm.. he's done so much for the FOSS community,
maybe it's better if you just read about him here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_Welte
They are going to show off their baby, explain what makes it tick, and how
it works, and how you can get involved in this high-visibility project.
They will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
The event is open to (almost) everyone who is interested in OpenMoko and
wants to learn more about the project. This event is developer oriented,
and of interest to people who wish to contribute to the project at system
(Linux), UI (gtk) or application level.
The "almost" in the paragraph above stems from the fact that no more than
100 people will fit in the venue, and it is therefore first come, first
serve.
There is no cover charge, but you will have to register by sending your
name to openmoko-event(a)blug.in latest by Monday, the 9th of April - only
people who register and who receive a confirmation can attend.
Sorry about that, but we have to take into account that the venue can only
hold a fixed number of people, and that we have to tell the hotel in
advance how many people will be coming (for the snacks and tea/coffee
after the event).
We are grateful to Geodesic Information Systems Limited, who have kindly
agreed to cover the expenses of the event.
So if you are interested in embedded/mobile Linux, the OpenMoko project,
and the future of mobile communication, then please send your name to
openmoko-event(a)blug.in
Please spend some time going through the material at http://openmoko.org
to prepare. This will help you get the most out of the event.
And if any of you have already started developing for the platform (you
know who you are), please let us know so that we can highlight this during
the event.

Dear All,
Self Introduction :
I'm Omshivaprakash .H.L born Bangalorian. I'm very new to mailing lists and
IRC channels and willing to be more active participant in Linux user group
activities in Bangalore. I was told by Mr. Nagarjuna to join
Bangalore-Gnu-org.in and update my concerns about gnu.org.in to Bangalore
Linux user group and here is my little draft on the same(I'm sorry I had not
explored much about Linux User Groups in Bangalore but kept on looking for
some contacts which I can get and found wiki etc. Hope this reaches all here
in bangalore) Here I have my little bio-data to introduce myself to the
group on my website http://shiv.techfiz.info , it is still incomplete :)
hope I will be able to finish my website work soon.
Regarding Gnu.org.in
Last couple of weeks when I started getting into IRC channels #linux-india
-#foss-in and I was also going through gnu.org.in found that there were too
downtimes recently with the domain and contacted Bghosh and Anurag (#GOSUB
#devmodem ) regarding this and even sent a mail to gnu(a)gnu.org.in expressing
my concern about the website downtimes some times that lasted for 3-4 days
or may be more. I run my own VPS server and use it for myself and also for
few of my friends ( working hard to become linux geeks). I'm very much
willing to provide the required space and bandwidth for mirroring
www.gnu.org.in so that we can at least have a backup or a temporary page
where visitors can get some updates on Gnu happening or server downtime
reasons instead of reaching no where. Please let me know your views on this.
Kannada version of GPL and Gnu.org.in
I also found that there is no Kannada version of gnu.org.in or GPL License
available for users. If any one working on this translation work, please do
let me know I can be of some help and I need help with this If I initiate
this task as I got to do lots of study on lots of technical terms etc hope
all of you are here to help me with this task.
Waiting to hear from you all.
Thank you,
