Hi Fellows,
I know that most of folks are too busy, but a one day trip to kerala should be a great idea.
What do you think guys?
What else you can do in kerala? (Apart from news below)
Am going to hire a boat to go round the back-waters and call it India's first Gnu/Linux curise.
cheers

Some of us in Thiruvananthapuram met on 6th evening and decided that we should celebrate the annual day of FSF India on July 21st. The group included Sathish Babu, M. Arun, V.K. Sajith and a few others. We are thinking of a one day programme that will include a public meeting, discussions and an exhibition. The exhibition will have posters on philosophy, posters on software and computers demonstrating different kinds of software. We hope that the function will draw some media attention and help in popularising Free Software. Applications like Blender, Gimp, OpenOffice and Scribus could attract both the public and media.
An email discussion group, fsf-kerala@cc4.tifr.res.in, was also formed to discuss our activities, so that we could think of other activities in the future at Thiruvananthapuram, and also co-ordinate with people in other places who may be interested in conducting such programmes elsewhere.
Any suggestions from members are welcome.

Good idea, Rakesh. But I feel if we can do something to reflect the "freedom" feeling here in Bangalore, that will be a greater contribution.
So lets plan for a Free Software event on July 21st in Bangalore.
BTW, are we meeting this Sunday? What time? Barista - Barton centre?
cheers, Abhas.

My intent to "think globally; act locally"!!
Any plans?
A plan could be something like:
* a two hour event plus tea/coffee * a talk or two on free software * some demos * a Q & A session * sell some copies of FSF documentation (or even those essays compilation from GLUG[T]) * sell some debian gnu/linux CDs
We should specifically invite:
* students * media people * enthusiasts * developers * blug participants who care
H'm I have no idea !
If we are firm on this idea of an event then there is a lot to do and talk about!

Its July 21st not June 21st! So there is quite some time. We can do a very good job if we can prepare well.
BTW, I'm prepared to host a Jabber conference if we all want to meet up online instead of in person. Then maybe everyone can join in and contribute views and comments and we can build up a strong plan.
Who would want to join into the conference? (I need to add the users.) When should we have it?

What I'll do is go ahead and create logins for everyone and mail the login information to the list. We can setup a time and log in. I'm logged in all the time - so you can ping me on Jabber anytime.

I was thinking more on the lines of a username@fsug-bangalore.deeproot.org.in jabber system that ours to use and is hosted in Bangalore so most of us will get real good speeds.
