As far as my knowledge goes... Espon Stylus 4xx series are not
officially supported in Linux. I have an Epson Stylus 480, and I
…
[View More]would be glad to get it working too :)
Thanks,

Hi all!
It's been two years since I'm using Linux and at my workplace I'm
using Linux exclusively. I could've had a Linux-only setup at home
also but for one thing - printer.
I've been driven nuts trying to get my Epson Stylus 460 running in
Linux in vain. My last attempt was with the stock foomatic printer
drivers that came with RedHat 7.2. I had made a clean reinstall of
RedHat 7.2 and I selected the Stylus 460 driver - there were three
options for that and I selected stp, IIRC. When I …
[View More]tried printing the
PS test page, the printer started spewing
*** Unable to open initial device ***
ad infinitum.
Now I'm going back home after 3 months (I work in a different city,
you see) armed with RH 7.3 CDs and I plan to upgrade from 7.2. This
time could someone please tell me how to get things done? I would be
OK w/o photo printing as long as I can atleast print color postscript
and images at the normal 600 dpi. When I posted about my last attempt
with stock RH 7.2 foomatic drivers, someone told that those drivers
were broken and I should use new ones. Hope this time around things
might look up.
But please do give me some clear instructions on how to set it up
using the RH 7.3 foomatic drivers and printconf-tui or printconf-gui.
Thanks a lot in advance :-)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's your cue!
There's a physical error (bad sector) on your hard disk.
UncorrectableError means there was a burst error severe enough that
the ECC algorithm couldn't correct it. If you can read other
partitions from the same hard disk, there's a good …
[View More]chance that it is
only a few bad sectors and most of your data is intact.
Your best bet is to somehow boot to Windows or DOS 7.x and run Norton
Disk Doctor. Don't bother running scandisk. It'll say something like
"Errors in Filesystem, Scandisk can't run" (duh!)
If that doesn't work, and you have sufficiently important data on that
disk let me know. If enough of the filesystem tables are intact it
ought to be possible to fix it manually.
Anyway ultimately you want to do a low-level format of that hard disk
before you use it again.

Hi,
anyone on this list using slackware
in production ?
tanx
sidd
get it from http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=linux
and compile and follow the instructions given there.
At least it worked for me on an ASUS MB with on board GForce2 GPU.
All the best.

I have one ext2 partition, two fat32 partitions and one fat16 partition.
I can mount the ext2 and fat16 partitions, but am unable to mount the
vfat (fat32) partitions.
When I try to mount them, the hard disk makes a humming sound, and I get
these errors:
hda: timeout waiting for DMA
hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
hda: DMA disabled
ide0: reset: success
hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=…
[View More]5221126, sector=1
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:01 (hda), sector 1
FAT bread failed
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1,
or too many mounted file systems
This happens everytime.
I tried disabling dma and then mounting, and I get these errors:
hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=5221126, sector=1
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:01 (hda), sector 1
FAT bread failed
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1,
or too many mounted file systems
I am unable to boot into the fat32 partitions either.
I have not used Windows for several months now, so don't think that this
is a windows related problem, and I was able to mount the partitions
last night, but not since this afternoon.
Shutdown was uneventful the last time I used the fat32 partitions. I
have all my documentation stored on those partitions and refer to them
frequently.
Any ideas as to what has happened and how I may be able to fix it?

If you have root on the box, ntop, iptraf....
Install ucd-snmp (aka net-snmp), and get the data transfer through the
ip mib.
Use ssh and a script to cut out the relevant values from your ifconfig output.
Monitor the switch that your machine is connected to.…

Hi,
I have been here for a little time and this place is great- low on
traffic and high on info.
Thanks to all you people who keep up the good work of answering
querries. You people know who you are. Keep up the good work.
Finally, I would like to point out that the ilug website is really
low on content. We must give it a face lift. Can we have debates
on this?
