Hi,
Has anybody use the Reliance WiMax (Broadnet) services? I am
more interested in their services in Mumbai. Good, Bad, Ugly?
Apparently they install separate antenna for each connection. The size
of this is as big as a laptop monitor or such, thats what the
marketing exec told me.
What I want to know is - 1) compatibility with Linux Boxes
2) does it work during the rainy season? Considering that rains in
Mumbai or Panvel is slightly on the extreme side ;), does it work fine
during the rainy season? I guess the same applies to the DTH setup
even.
Only reason, I am thinking its worth a try is because I won't
have to depend on availabilty of power and such because I will be
responsible to provide power to the setup which I can in case of load
shedding as well. Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

Subject: [ILUG-BOM] Need Help
Hi All,
I am using an IBall Marshall Dual Core Laptop,
it does not alllow the install of Linux as the installer, irrespective
of the linux flavor hangs up,
can anyone suggest a way to install Linux in the system.
Most linux installers hang up without any error message
I have tried the noapic and nolapic options in boot parameters with Ubuntu
The BIOS is a Phoenix BIOS, but SIW reports it as COMPAL BIOS
at present, it has windows installed in it and working fine

At what stage of booting does it hang? Also what is on the screen when it hangs? Try a Ubuntu Live CD (Pref Hardy) and boot in the verbose mode. Can you tell us at what stage the verbose mode hangs ?

Hi,
I am trying to setup network to access the guest running on
VirtualBox from internet. My current setup is as follows :-
eth1 - Internet
eth0 - LAN
I set up network to work properly on VirtualBox following the how-to on
gentoo-wiki[1] and was able to access the guest from outside. But, since
eth0 is bridged to br0, the other PC on the LAN isn't able to access the
internet. I don't have any more network cards. What would be the best
way to tackle this? Should I create eth1:0? Any other solutions?

Hey,
Since many people on this list have attended workshops or
even done some mapping/tracing work, I thought I would ask some
questions here -
1) Suppose you are walking on a particular street - 2 way
street even - you encounter a few shops - say a big Sweet and Snacks /
Hotel / School / anything, on the same street. Now how do you put
those on the maps while GPS tracking and then tracing the map on the
computer?
I mean, the to reach the shop, you have to walk good 5
meters or such - at times - depending on width of foot path or such.
Now those paths are not roads really, and they can vary from place to
place. How to tackle such offsets ?
2) Suppose you have tracked certain part of your town or
your route from your home to airport near your city. Then you fly to
another city and then restart the GPS device. At that point the device
generally has to re-initiate itself to capture/detect the satellites (
which it has to do anyway incase you turn off and then switch on a gps
device - atleast in some devices that I have seen ). Anyway after it
has done that, it calculates the Longitude and Latitude and hence the
current position. What happens in this case is, the GPS device draws a
straight line from City A to City B. Is there a way to avoid that /
tackle that ?
Any pointers ? Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

The news says...
"Every tech company is getting its products ready for the post-PC era. While Apple seems to have taken the lead with the most innovative device ( the iPhone) to date, GNU/Linux is all set to shake and stir a bit. Conanical, the company behind Ubuntu, has announced Ubuntu MID(mobile Internet device) Edition 8.04 as a full developer's release. It is based on the Ubuntu Desktop Edition, and it is now available for download. The Ubuntu MID Edition 8.04 has been built by the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded community that is sponsored by Canonical and in co-operation with Intel Moblin.org community to take advantage of the Intel Atom Processor, the chipset that is underpinning the Mobile Internet Device (MID) category. Ubuntu MID Edition will always be an Open Source distribution and is freely available."

Hello,
I came across a graphics software thats open source. It is called open
source Xara Extreme. It can be downloaded as a tar.bz2 file that is a
self running program. Simply go to the bin folder and double click on
the xaralx file. You will need to install imagemagick first and its
available in your distro's respective repository. What is the general
opinion about this software xara? I checked out its import function in
the file menu and it can import even from photoshop file formats.

Hello,
To experiment for a client who may move to GNU/Linux, I installed wine
in my Debian Etch but its default IE would open only a blank naked
window. So uncle google gave me this nice site that helps you install
Internet Explorer for GNU/Linux.

I know this for sure that when the PC's ethernet card is connected to
the DSL modem/router's ethernet port in "bridge" mode, the WAN IP
appears on the PC's NIC i.e. the PC become visible on the 'Net.
Likewise, is the same true when the PC is connected to the DSL
modem/router using the USB ports on the respective devices?
To the best of my knowledge the answer is yes but need to confirm it
from the device gurus :)
TIA
