How is the above related to the original subject?
If you do not have the time to compose a new message with a relevant
subject line, how do you expect others to devote their time to give
you suggestions?
Please follow list guide lines and do not "hijack" other discussions
with your queries.

hi,
has anyone here tinkered with the raspberry-pi enough to call themselves
gurus (relative to others)?
would like to know the best way forward to build a customized linux kernel
based operating system for the same.
the most important requirement is that the 'os' be able to control
various shields/add-ons via a simple to use programmable environment of
a non-gui nature.
thanks,
~mayuresh
hi,
the ilug-bom.org.in website definitely looks like it needs a lot of care
and attention.
is there anyone willing to chip in with copy writing skills to generate
content for the landing page? i can take care of the look-n-feel.

hi,
is there by any chance a group/forum which newbies to free software be
able to approach for guidance/advice regarding the best way forward
vis-a-vis going from ideation to implementation process for projects?
if not, how receptive would the free software crowd be to such an
effort?
would it be considered good?
or, would it be considered a wasteful activity?
best,
~mayuresh
I am using Ububtu 14.04 on my mac book because I wanted a smooth transition from my lenovo t61 and I am happy with the transition. However, there are a couple of problems for which I am looking for suggestions.
* I am unable to get the display through vga out for connecting to a projector. Has anyone tried it?
* It appears that apple has moved the webcam from usb based interface to PCI and so I am unable to use the built-in webcam (an external webcam works fine) in Ubuntu. This is lesser of the problem but would appreciate hearing any suggestions for this too.
Thanks and regards,
Uday Khedker.

Rapid7, a security data and analytics firm found a serious bug in the
WebView component of Android 4.3 and below (it's an older bit of software
that lets apps view webpages without launching a separate app) that
potentially opens up affected phones to malicious hackers. Android 4.4 and
5.0 are unaffected by the bug.

Hello All,
Linux Format and Linux Voice, have an Events page managed by Les Pounder (
http://t.co/j95b9uuMfH) where they mention about upcoming events. Since
these are monthly magazines, you have to inform one moth before, the event
been covered in next edition.

i am initiating work on delivering an embedded variant of gnowsys [1]
which i intend to complete by december 2016.
for the same, i will be re-writing the entire gnowsys stack such that
it is geared towards a proper decentralized control model instead of
the existing centralized one [2].
the completed project would be targeted to be run on low cost compute
systems like the raspberry pi to afford wider adoption by virtue of
them being more economically viable than real servers or even desktops.
given all of the above, and the fact that i have very little knowledge
about hardware level stuff, i request information about;
1. ways in which r-pi based system be wirelessly networked without
human intervention, something like creating mesh networks which
can auto-discover other nodes using zeroconf.
2. a feasible approach to deploying such nodes in regions with bad
electrical and network infrastructure.
also, i need a custom designed linux based distribution with the
following characteristics;
1. minimal disk footprint (within 8mb),
2. low memory usage (within 4mb),
3. low electrical power consumption,
4. high security (am quite fascinated by the 'olpc' model).
this is targeted to be free software, both, as in speech and beer.
collaborators interested in working on the above are most welcome to
contact me, either on the list or off it.
best regards,
~mayuresh
