I am proposing a meet on 6th Jan, and also proposing an agenda
(if Sameer agrees to it): Using SGML to generate Documents, and
converting SGML/XML to other popular formats like, ps, rtf, pdf
etc. I have been using LaTeX for this task and highly satisfied,
and would also love to learn the SGML tools to do the same. It is
necessary that the hackers on the list should learn the power of
these time tested tools, and should be introduced to them sooner
than later.
Should we decide Sameer! on your introduction/tutorial to
structured documentation using SGML?

I have installed Squid on Linux server and accessing the internet from a Win95 m/c. Now, whenever the modem installed on the Linux server gets disconnected I have to go & dial from the server.
Instead, I to configure the proxy such that the moment open the browser from the Win 95 client, Squid should cause the PPP to dialout automatically without my intervention.
Can anybody tell me the config details for the same : I have Redhat Linux 7.1 installed & Squid which cam along with the package.

Which language you are using? I assume Perl, because this is much simpler in
Perl.
1. Open the file for reading.
2. Search for the above string by reading every line. $_ variable
contains the current line. You can do this by using pattern searching
operations in Perl.
3. Once you find the above line then split that line at spaces and collect
the required date in a variable.
Here is the code which I would prefer to write.
open(RH,"</root/sandeep/log111.txt");
while(<RH>)
{
if($_ =~ /##Date/)
{
$flag = 1;
}
else
{
$flag = 0;
}
if($flag eq 1)
{
($str1, $str2) = split(/ /, $_);
$date = $str2;
}
}
Hope this is very much clear.
Regards,
Mayur

I came, I saw, I deleted all your files.
Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off your goal.
Microsoft is not the answer.
Microsoft is the question.
NO (or Linux) is the answer.

Hey Guys,
For those Multimedia freaks, Check out Winamp3 beta 2 review.
Also, they've designed the new API called WASABI, uniform for all the operating systems(currently works with Linux And Win32).
This means, Winamp will now work with Linux as well....
Plus, whatever you develop for Winamp3 on Win32 using WASABI will work with very less or no modification on Linux as well.
It's great..... ( that is what I think !!!)
Hope to get your reviews as well...

hi!
I'm attaching a file containing excerpts from my
syslog.
Wanted to generate some discussion regarding
interpretation of the entries....
fyi, I'm behind a proxy server.I've got iptables
running.
you can look at the file first, and then read on..
my two cents..
this is a malicious attempt-not innocent at all!!
hint:same destination and source ports...
most certainly, the source IPs are spoofed, the
attacker is within the LAN that i;m part of.
hint:packet with a destination of all 255s...
I've also got snort running on the same machine....it
didnt generate any alerts...
does anyone recognise any particular scanner's
signature here?
anyone know what particular exploit(s) this guy was
looking for?
inviting more inputs from u guys.
regards,
kishor

hi
I have been hunting for a problem definition for my b.e. project.
Well, the search has been narrowed down to Web Server Clustering.
I've seen the stuff at www.linuxvirtualserver.org
and at lcic.org, But haven't been able to find a precise problem.
Has anybody on the list worked in that area???
If yes could you direct me or suggest a few problem defn.s fit for us at
b.e. level??
