We are Planning to migrate from Windows to Linux Platform.Currently we are having two departments with below hardware and software configurations. We seek your guidance for this migration process. We will be very grateful if you can help us out in this pr
We seek your guidance on following queries :-
1. Can you please suggest us which flavour of linux is suitable for each department depending upon software used by them? We have tried Suse 9.0 and RedHat 9.0 & Federo Core 3.
2. Can you please suggest us qually efficient linux based compatible softwares for below given softwares ?
3. Also we are looking for Diskless Networking (dumb client and HDD shared on server) for above 2 departments. Can you please suggest us which networking configuraton (hardware and software) is best suited. Kindly note that Department 2 is using Desktop P
4. As we are very much new to Linux environment, the linux flavour which we will choose should also have good online support available where we can ask our questions and get the results quickly.
5. Also our users are very much familiar to windows environment, so the softwares on linux which we will choose should be user friendly and GUI based.
6. Also those softwares should be tried, tested and stable so as we would not face any problem in future.

I have a Dell inspiron 510m laptop.
from lspci -v it shows.

I installed slmodem modules. it gets the modem through alsa , &
detected by wvdialconf , when below is run.

But dialing doesnt work, there is no sound ( even after adjusting
alsamixer settings - Phone) & it doesnt dial?
What could be the problem. below is output of wvdial trying to dial

Hi all,
I got OpenLDAP configured on my qmail server but lately its giving me problem with "untimely death" and by chking the status gives me error slapd dead,but pid file exists,therefore i've to manually restart the ldap services i can't find the logs either, i chkd the slapd.conf file (it seems ok)
1>is there anyway i can prevent the failure of slapd
2>or shud i make a script for the ldap services and restarts it automatically on failure
3>and how do i generate the logs for the same
...pls help me

Hi All
Is there anyone who recommend me any biometric device for designing
fingerprint based attendance recording system? I want to go for hardware
only and software will be designed inhouse because all parties are selling
windows based software which can be operated from one machine. I want to
design it in PHP/MYSQL (i.e browser based) can be operated from anywhere. I
need only device and import/export data software. I had some demo but
dealers are quite confused to give it to Linux system. They recommend me to
export data through windows system which I don't need. Data import/export
should be automated by shell script. Any recommendation for device and
dealers will be highly appreciated.

144kbps (or is it 170kbps)) is the total channel throughput. Shared
by umpteen users. Result 4.5kbps actual throughput most of the time.
Occassionally you may get a burst of speed when the channel is
relatively less cluttered. Unless you are guaranteed in writing of
a fixed continuos bandwidth, all the promises are rubbish.
In fact a 9600bps gsm connection (not gprs) works far better than
any of the shared schemes. Of course you are charged Rs.4 per minute.
