HI
I have just configured a squid proxy server. I have created a group called
marketing and allowed http access to that particular group ( following is my
config )
acl marketing src "/etc/squid/marketing.squid"
http_access allow marketing
###########################################
how ever i now need to give certain permission to the group *"marketing "* (
like disallowing access to certain sites ... limiting bandwidth to this
group )
How is this possible ?
Can some one please help me here !!

Dear Linuxers,
I am working on resurrecting the erstwhile Linux Delhi Hall Of Shame,
which lists a set of (typically Indian or useful to Indian) websites
which are not standards compliant, in the sense that they are designed
to work with specific proprietary software applications or operating
systems. Full details of criteria and current list of sites in the
Hall of Shame are available here:
http://wiki.linux-delhi.org/cgi-bin/twiki/view/Main/HallOfShame
I would request you to familiarize yourself with the criteria which
warrant additions to the list, and add relevant sites to the list as
well. If you do not want to edit the Wiki yourself, please mail me and
I shall add the site to the Wiki.
I appreciate your comments and suggestions. Please help in making this
effort a success.
Thanks are due to Raj "Raju" Mathur of Linux Delhi for his advice in
helping me get this done.
Thank you.

hi,
as a fallout from the NRC-FOSS meeting in Mumbai, requests for
Teacher Training Programmes and installation of FOSS in labs have
started coming in. Typically, TTPs will be for one or two days, and
the teachers will be trained to teach FOSS subjects. We have a full
schedule of what is to be taught. We will pay for travel,
accommodation and a small honorarium also. Please contact us if you
are interested.

This guide is to setup Ubuntu Linux with Worldnet / Exattnet.
Assume the following :
Username : abc
Password : xyz
Server : worldnet002
Lets get started ....
1. Get a dlink card - DFE-530TX (it has original realtek chipset which
if fully supported in linux as 8139too kernel module)
Note : There are other lan cards in market available under Realtek
chipset - but they didnt work for me. I read about them that they are
not original realtek chipset.
2. Run the following command from the shell prompt (needed to set the
link speed to 10MPBS and Half duplex)
$mii-tool -F 10baseT-HD eth0
Add this line to /etc/rc.local so that it runs at every boot
/etc/rc.local
mii-tool -F 10baseT-HD eth0
3. Install the pppoe package (google them)
modconf_0.3.1_all.deb
pppoe_3.8-1.1_i386.deb
pppoeconf_1.13_all.deb
4. configure the /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf (substitute the username and passowrd)
/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf
ETH='eth0'
USER='abc'
DEMAND=no
CONNECT_TIMEOUT=60
CONNECT_POLL=6
PING="."
PIDFILE="/var/run/$CF_BASE-pppoe.pid"
TERMINATEFILE=/var/run/pppoe.stop
SYNCHRONOUS=no
CLAMPMSS=no
LCP_INTERVAL=20
LCP_FAILURE=3
PPPOE_TIMEOUT=80
FIREWALL=NONE
ACNAME='worldnet002'
SERVICENAME='worldnet002'
DNSTYPE='SERVER'
PEERDNS='yes'
5. Run the following command and fill in the details
$pppoe-setup
6. Verify the following
/etc/ppp/chap-secrets
"abc" * "xyz"
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets
"abc" * "xyz"
7. Start the internet
$sudo pppoe-start
...Connected !
Note :
Sometimes the worlnet DNS servers will not assign you a IP address. So
when you boot into windows note down the IP address assigned to you.
Then when you boot into Linux just assign the same IP address to the
LAN card as static ip address.
This is just a basic hack to get it working. If any improvements or
mistakes please suggest.

Hello all,
I have made a ARM9E based hardware and am now writing extended
drivers for the peripherals (Linux 2.4.20). Need help with somebody who can
devote some time on driver development. I shall explain the toolchain,
discuss the requirements and once ready, test the drivers on the hardware
with you. It shall be a great learning experience for sure. We can discuss
other things offline. Drop me a mail at akshaymishra<at>gmail.com.
Thanks,

1. Write a shell script in a secure location. For example, assume that
your script is /usr/local/bin/myscript.sh
2. Make sure that its owner and group is root and root respectively.
chown root.root /usr/local/bin/myscript.sh
This step is not essential, but useful to keep the script tamper proof
provided next step is also followed.
3. Make sure that it is executable.
chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/myscript.sh
4. Run "crontab -e" as the user who is intended to execute the script.
In the editor window, enter data in the following format (for further details
read crontab manual by running "man 5 crontab")
minute hour day_of_month month day_of_week /usr/local/bin/myscript.sh
For testing purpose, set up execution time a few minutes from current time.
Usually cron daemon is started during system startup. You don't have to
start it explicitly. Run "ps -ax | grep cron | grep -v grep" to check whether
cron is running already.
5. Check the mail of the user as whom the script was getting executed.
The mail will contain the output, if any, generated from the script. Usually
these mails are stored in /var/mail directory.
Special care should be taken to write scripts running as root. The ownership
and permission of all the scripts or other executables are of extreme
importance to avoid unintended security holes in your setup. The security
aspects of shell script or any other executable can't be discussed in a short
mail like this. Refer some good books on secure programming or search on
the Net.
