I have been reading advertisements on newspapers about
ACER laptops pre-installed with GNU/Linux. I don't
know what their model numbers are, but they have
appeared around 2-3 weeks ago. If you have an
indiatimes email account, you can use
http://epaperdaily.timesofindia.com and check out the
archives. Or find out your old paper stocks in the
store-room ;)
But the Acer Showroom (in SION) didn't know what Linux
distribution was installed on the Laptop! :) (I had
called up only to ask that!)
Oh, sorry, after going through the link, the OS that
comes pre-installed is Linux, but again, donno, which
distro. (had written the above before visting)
Psst ... Spelling mistake in subject line? (Type Linux
Linux ... ;) )

Hello Everyone,
I am zeroing in on an Acer Laptop for my family's usage. The model is
TravelMate 2428NWXCi
http://www.acer.co.in/products/notebooks/tm2420.html
The sole purpose will be internet, email and office suite. I would like
to know how this laptop fares with linux and which distro works best on
it. I specially plan to make use of the wireless LAN, so does it work
out of the box or does it need some hours of sweat and hard work? What
are user experiences for this model?
Any information provided will be highly appreciated and thanks for the
same in advance.
Regards,
Rony.

Pre-emptive courtesy :-) Never the less nice to know you believe that :-)

Since we are on this topic now, i guess it would be prudent to say that if
there is anyone looking for filesystem based projects they could look at
contributing towards Reiser4. i know there are other higher priority
projects out there, but if anyone is specifically interested they could
check out :
http://www.namesys.com/v4/v4.html
Interestingly, Hans was spearheading Reiser4's design and a lot of its
implementation alone. There some contribution is coming from ``talented
programmers from Russia and Ukraine" but was/is the heart and sole of
Reiser4 so far. Even if people have a basic interest in Computer Science,
its a nice page to check out. i especially was interested in ``dancing tree
structures".
Just my thoughts!
i think i have given mine.

That was the point behind sending the Wikipedia link and not ``just" my
thoughts on the same. The end of the article raises those points. Anyway the
result of the trial will give us the final picture. Never the less i felt
that i should post this, and let people make their own conclusions. Anything
further from me would be a biased prejudice.

Don't get me wrong, the intent was NOT to share random gossip.
it is a horrible post - horribly OT, and you have not mentioned that

My apologies, Kenneth and anyone else who felt so. Dear Admin's if you felt
the same, apologies as well.

hello,
I want to know if any one can provide me a sample sources.list file
for debian system.
I have a problem with ftp.de.debian.org repository.
need some file that will give me some more repositories..
Krishnakant.
Hi all,
Those of you who are slashdot regulars probably know this but those
who don't :
Hans Reiser the author of the ReiserFS file system is going to give his
plea(guilty/not guilty/manslaughter .....) today(actually tonight as its in
California) over the charge of his wife's murder. You can check the
Wikipedia page for the whole story :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Reiser
i'm sorry for such a horrible post, but i believe people ought to know. By
all accounts this is the most morbid and macabre post ever on this list.
Never the less, people have to know.
Regards,
- vihan
