Hi all,
On one of my Windows XP system I am unable to connect to mysql from php
script. I am able to login to mysql server from the command line as well
as mysql console provided by WAMP 2.0 but from php script mysql_connect()
function is always failing. I have tested WAMP 2.0 and three versions of
EasyPHP but in each case I am facing the same problem. Even phpMyAdmin is
not being starting on this system. I have also followed the steps
mentioned on the page
http://forge.mysql.com/wiki/Error2003-CantConnectToMySQLServer but of no
use. Can any one give me clue for reason behind this type of problem?
Best Regards ...

Hello,
I was reading about tethering security when I came across this article
in this link on the net.
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/02/25/gsm_encryption_broken/1
An important part of the text is reproduced below.
"GSM encryption comes in four flavours: A5/0 is no encryption at all,
and is the standard for GSM devices shipped to countries the
distributors don't like all that much; A5/1 is the fairly robust
'default' encryption implementation used in the EU and the USA; A5/2 is
a weakened version of A5/1 offered to countries the distributors have no
strong feelings about but which the government may want to keep its eye
on; A5/3 is a newcomer to the scene, offering a more robust scheme than
A5/1 but currently not implemented for anyone who doesn't work for a
three-letter-agency."
I am curious to know, what security do we use in India? I could not get
exact details on the net. Is the security of GSM equipment pre-set by
foreign manufacturers (read: their Govts.) or do we as Indians have some
say to modify it?

I have 10.10 cd iso image. I want to add ubuntu manual to this iso image
such that, after burning this iso image to cd, in live cd mode and after
installation that ubuntu manual should appear in the desktop. I am using
acetoneISO. I wanted to know the location in iso image where to add the
manual.

I work with on Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome as Desktop Environment. I have all
the toolbars on autohide mode as it gives me full space on the screen to
work.
This change , though, is more comfortable for me but is also causing some
inconvenience. I often lose track of time spent.
So, I want a way by which I could keep a widget or app like thing at top
right corner of my screen (taking minimum space, hence time in DIGITAL
format), which can show time.
OR
if I can integrate a digital clock on righmost side of the active window.
Any idea on how this can be achieved?
I am looking for simple linux hacks or some config changes to do so.
Otherwise will have to do so in java , Qt etc.
Please pour in your ideas...

Govt of Maharashtra has placed the draft eGovernance Policy on their
website ( http://maharashtra.gov.in/ ) for citizens' comments.
I think one should take this opportunity to log the expectations from such
policy as citizens.
Besides general comments, as FOSS users, we should also insist on
inter-operability of the Govt platforms (if not use of FOSS for building
such platforms).
We should make a joint representation to the govt. on behalf of bombay-lug??
That will be a better way of impacting the decision making process. We could
have an open-source lobby, which would stress for open standards.

Perhaps we can organize a Mumbai ILUG meet to celebrate the event and meet up.

There are very few GNOME 3.0 launch parties planned in the developing
