Hello everyone,
We are in a process of updating the website (http://www.ilug-bom.org.in/) for our group.
We are slowly building and improving the website.
We have given link of the old twitter account (https://twitter.com/ilugbom which seems to be of our group) in the footer of the website,
This account seems to be inactive now. Can we have the acces to this account? Is it handled by someone from our group?
If someone is willing to manage it then it is more than welcome. New updates and recent events can be posted to this twitter handle.
Note: We have the source for our website in this gitlab repo - https://gitlab.com/ilug-bom/www.ilug-bom.org.in
If anybody wants to contribute by writing articles, improve the website, or just want to help by proofreading then just request access or send a pull request.
Thank you

Dear Friends,
In Linux is there a way in which new files or folders created in a
directory will inherit the directory's owner and group with the same
permissions too? The new files or folders are currently getting created
with the user and group of the user who created them. I want all the new
data to have user:group and permissions of the parent directory.
I have tried different things like suid sgid sticky bit and even mounting
the folder with a certain uid, gid and umask but new data does not inherit
the same.
Thanks and Regards,
Rony.
FWIW, this might be useful to folks using multiple openWRT+Squid.

Subject: [OpenWrt-Users] Introducing Charcoal - Centralised URL filter for Squid
To: openwrt-users(a)lists.openwrt.org
Hi,
We are excited to invite early users to test drive Charcoal
(http://charcoal.io) - a Squid URL Rewriter for distributed proxies.
It has come out of our need of managing ACLs for 100+ proxy servers on
OpenWRT/LEDE running at our customer offices across the geography of
India. We are releasing it in the hope that it will be useful for
users who have to manage multiple proxy servers everyday.
Devices that we have tested it on are:
- PCEngines ALIX
- PCEngines APU
- PCEngines APU2
- Mikrotik Routerboard RB951Ui-2HnD
Releases that we have tested it on are:
- OpenWRT 14.07
- OpenWRT 15.05
- LEDE 17.01
Charcoal is designed to help administrators manage access rules for
the proxies at just one place with a GUI, instead of editing
configuration of individual proxy servers.
The architecture is API key driven client-server, where a squid
url-rewrite helper contacts server to query access controls for the
incoming requests.
Current features:
-----------------
- Supports Squid 2.x and 3.x
- 70+ pre-existing domains blacklist
- Custom destination groups/categories
- Custom source groups for IPs and Networks (usernames in the pipeline)
- As of now only domain filter support (no full url filtering)
- API key driven
Configuration:
--------------
- Download the helper from
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Hopbox/charcoal-helper/master/squid/charc….
- Make sure IO::Socket (perlbase-io) module for Perl is installed.
- Add following lines to squid.conf after downloading the helper:
url_rewrite_program /path/to/charcoal-helper.pl YOUR_API_KEY
url_rewrite_children X startup=Y idle=Z concurrency=1
YOUR_API_KEY for our hosted Charcoal service can be requested by
filling in the form at http://charcoal.io or writing in to
charcoal(a)hopbox.in. The credentials for login to
https://active.charcoal.io to manage the ACL will be emailed along
with YOUR_API_KEY.
License:
--------
URL Rewrite helper for squid is licensed under GPLv2.0 while Charcoal
Server is licensed under AGPLv3.0.
GIT Repo:
---------
Squid URL Rewrite helper can be downloaded from
https://github.com/Hopbox/charcoal-helper
Git repository for Charcoal Server is at https://github.com/Hopbox/charcoal
Regards,
Nishant

Hey linuxers
We had an awesome meetup last saturday, here is a brief summary of the meet.
Rushabh took a session on frappe framework which is used in Erpnext application.
We also had some guests who are faculty in local college.
You can download Rushabhs presentation from the link here [https://www.dropbox.com/s/53j8f4ruumvd4h4/frappe-framework.pdf?dl=0]. It has all the details and screenshots of the applications UI.
Rushabh began by explaining what a web framework is and why they started building a framework instead of using an existing one.
You can also read the full story here [https://frappe.io/story]
Rushabh explained what is included in the full stack framework and then talked about the UI aspect of the framework,
it includes a lot of functionality and one can say it follows the “batteries included” approach of python.
It has features such as List views Form views, invoices, mail integration, its own scheduler and background process handler,
resource & user managment, kanban style cards similar to trello, calendar, storage like google drive, anything that you can think of which aids ERP.
Collaboration is also easy and it has a very granular level of permision settings.
Rushabh said that their future goal is making erpnext a standalone application with the help of electron framework.
They are also trying to swith to pure javascript and less python.
The second part of the meet was discussion with the faculty members about promoting FOSS more in junior colleges.
The teachers expressed concerns about training required for migration. There was a lengthy discussion about how to tackle the problem.
They also provided us with the existing journals and syllabus. Teachers informed us that the online exams use a tool built on .net and wanted to know how that can be migrated.
They suggested that we should target 11th std and also schools and slowly introduce FOSS one step at a time.
Thank you
