Hi guys,
Since the website http://www.ilug-bom.org.in is hosted on a
server at TIFR ( i think so ) , can we have an IRC server set up there so
that, there can be more interaction, fast responses and good discussions ?
As for improving the ettiquete of this mailing list , we can invite people
who make mistakes to a room at IRC and teach them the proper way. And also,
i think it will also compliment this wonderful mailing list. I request Sir
Nagarjuna to look into this.
Regards,
Saurabh Sawant ! :)

*Minutes of October GLUG-Meet @ KReSIT - IIT*
The GNU/Linux Users Group of Mumbai held its October GLUG meet at KERSIT
- IIT on 17th October 2004. This meet was attended by about 25 people
coming from all over the city.
Following discussions and talks were conducted.
-> FLOSS and its relevance to India - by Rajesh Jain
Rajesh Jain talked about his affordable computing architecture based on
thin client network to deliver localized content to Indian masses. An
architecture that builds upon the Free Software stack available at
present combined with low cost, high performance hardware can be a boon
to the mid segment that does not have a budget of more than Rs. 10,000.
A hard core blogger and a visonary, his talk was one of the best we had
in the near past. We had a long question and answer session with
everyone putting forward their queries and Rajesh replying to everyone
patiently.
-> PHP : Resty - by Mitul and Sandeep
Next talk was on PHP - Resty by Sandeep. Resty is an inhouse solution
developed by Enterux which builds upon the PHP architecture.
* Details of next GLUG meet:
Date: 14 November 2004.
Agenda:
-> To be decided
Venue:
-> Netcore Solutions
Please see homepage for updates on next GLUG meet.

Dear Luggers,
This is off topic. The recent fire at Sion had 3 casualties. A woman and her
child took refuge in a lift to escape from the fire and reach the ground
floor. However, just at that time, the building's power was switched off for
safety and the two got trapped inside, inhaled poisonous gases and expired.
To prevent such tragedies from happenning, lift manufacturers could provide
a mechanical crank inside the lift to let the occupants slowly bring the
lift up or down to a safe floor. If the doors are the automatic type, then a
mechanical arrangement to open the door in case of an emerrgency. As a
safety measure, the door will open only when the lift has aligned with any
available floor.
If you know people in this profession, please pass on this message to them.

Rony.
Hi All,
Could you pls analyze the following transcript of my
session with a remote server and help me judge whether
the server is in some sense an open relay...One thing
abt the server is that it passes all anonymous
relaying tests.....but what if i know two contacts on
the same server..

[root@bijucyborg root]# telnet 2XX.1XX.XXX.XX 25

As I have observed the server accepts message from
xyz@COPSTOP to abc@COPSTOP.
1. xyz and abc are two valid users on the system.
2. This session was carried from a random machine on
the internet.
If this is dangerous....assuming that i'am using
sendmail, could u pls suggest a technique to stop
this.

Hi,
I have a few linux servers which in /proc/cpuinfo shows the number of cpu's,
on some servers, however I have only one cpu but top and /proc/cpuinfo
show's two. Any idea why does it show like this and what is a correct way
for analysing how many CPU's are present on the system. Does this happen on
only certain hardware, as I have noticed this on my SuperMicro and HP
servers only.
Thanks in advance...
Regards,
Keith
