Subject: money matters
Hi all,
I am talking on behalf of NashLUG, the Nashik Linux
Users Group
http://nashik.linux.org.in
We are a fledgling linux users group and to spread the
Linux word around, we often go to nearby colleges and
hold seminars on various aspects of GNU and linux.
In doing these seminars, we incur some costs and so
far the group members have been bearing this
personally.
We have this idea of charging the seminar members some
nominal entry fee, somewhere in the range of 20 to 50
rupees. In these seminars, we'd also be distributing
copies of knoppix or similar stuff.
Which brings us to the point in question. During one
of our discussions, a question came up as to whether
we, a bunch of enthusiasts, were authorised to collect
money. We do NOT want to run into problems later on
with, say, the income tax authorities or their kin.
What is normally done under such circumstances? Do we
have to register our group with some authority in
order to collect money? What do other LUG's do? I am
sure there are precedents to this problem.
Please advise.
Thanks in advance,
Sagar (for NashLUG)

Hi All,
We are trying a project with DAM/DAT(Dynamic Address Mapping/Translation)
support for linux. The machine should accept any preconfigured systems on
the lan side and route them to the WAN (second ethernet port) like NAT.
The LAN machines shouldnt be in the same network range (subnet) like the
router/DAM machine, but they need to get internet access.
Is there a way to implement a mechanism in linux for mapping those (ip-
unknown) clients:
for example:
[ 192.168.1.200 ] \\
[ 10.100.54.7 ] => [ DAM machine LAN side || WAN side PPPoE ] => { Internet }
[ 192.168.0.5 ] //
All nodes are direct connected via ethernet.
Any solutions ?
Someone told me earlier theres a way for that to be done with MAC address
routing instead of TCP/IP routing. But i didnt find any solutions about
Layer2 to Layer3 Routing except any tunnels (or netbios etc).
Thanks.
Rukman Naik.
Hi All,
Some of my friends are doing a project on Biomatrix ( recognising

Rajkumar

Spirit and Opportunity, the rovers exploring Mars' surface, are getting a
boost from Linux. In fact, they're taking their orders from Linux
workstations here on Earth. I had the chance to talk to Laurence Edwards a
little bit about the Mars rovers, and how NASA is using Linux to run the
Mars Exploration Rover Mission. Edwards is the Mars project lead for 3D
Visualization and Surface Reconstruction with the Intelligent Robotics
Group at NASA's Ames Research Center.

Xgrid: High Performance Computing for the Rest of Us
James Reynolds considered the unused power available in the 350 Power
Macintosh computers in the University of Utah's Student Computing Labs.
Each night when the labs would close, the computers would sit idle. He and
his co-workers wanted to tap into this potential power, but implementing a
distributed computing system had not been a priority.
