Hi!
I use FC3 at home and I have taken a Touchtel/Airtel DSL Connection.
The trouble is that I want to use my Micronet USB ADSL Broadlink
SP3302 Modem in Linux. This modem comes with drivers only for Windows.
I checked the manufacturer's website. Though they want their products
to work with Linux, they donot support Linux(??). I have also checked
the eciadsl Linux driver page. No mention of Micronet's products over
there either. This modem connects directly to the USB port and does
not go through an Ethernet card.
Can you help me use this modem in Linux? What do I need to do?
Thanx
John

Hello all,
I'd like to know if there is a way to graphics programming on
GNU/Linux .. something very similar to what I'd do in C on windows
using Borland C. Just some basic graphic programming .. output of
which could be displayed in the terminal or something.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Dear Friends,
The PCQ Linux 2005 in the March 2005 issue is fully packed with features
and its free. The system it was installed on was a P4 2.4 Ghz and Intel
845 GEBV2 motherboard. Its foundation is the Fedora Core3 linux. It has
so many installation choices that its very difficult to choose. However,
once you select the broader choice, before the installation starts, it
gives you a package list and that is where individual packages of any
type can be selected. It has a grub loader and during installation it
asks if you want to add additional entries. It does not detect the
existing RedHat installation and the manually added partition entry in
its dialogue box is useless. The installation was smooth and everything
went fine. There is however a minor hiccup of internal modem not
detecting and surprisingly the 2.6 kernel does not detect my sound card,
even though RHEL's 2.4 does. An older machine's external modem has been
added to the system so that issue is tackled and net access is
fantastic. Since there are less security programs running compared to
XP, the net experience is racy. The sound driver module will have to be
compiled according to Intel's website. The PCQ forum has a solution of
running some sndconfig rpm but there was none for FC3. This will be a
good learning exercise and I will get the steps from google. The grub
script was modified to properly detect the existing RHEL and now all the
3 systems boot smoothly.
Overall this is a very comprehensive free OS. It even has support for a
thin diskless client server as well as clustering for supercomputing. It
is rich in multimedia software. It is definately worth trying. The best
part is that it is available in CDs and not DVDs.
Regards,
Rony.

This is a bug fix release of Ark Linux 2005.1: "Ark
Linux 2005.1-SR1, a bugfix release of Ark Linux 2005.1, has been
released. Mostly due to our lack of test hardware and testers, a
couple of bugs worth fixing immediately managed to get into Ark Linux
2005.1 - based on user feedback, we have made a Service Release to
address them and add some commonly requested features. ... The
following features have been added: newly installed machines
automatically retrieve network settings from DHCP servers (if there is
one); DHCP enabled network interfaces no longer delay the boot up
process if no DHCP server is found; support for Zeroconf support has
been added; the X.Org Composite extension, allowing to use real
transparent windows, is now enabled....

What exactly does this stupid statement mean. I could give you a hundred
very sound reasons for the "Missing features", but dont want to bore
the whole list (as it would involve collating your past posts which
cribbed about ease of use etc.).

The most popular in terms of installed user base is Debian.
The gpl allows you to make as many copies of any gpld software and
use it in any fashion you please. The only restrictions is that you
cannot change the terms of the gpl. And if you care to read, the
commercial distros come with manuals and support. You are paying for
the manual and support. They may also include some closed source
drivers, which are distributed on different terms (eg. the winmodem
drivers). There is no restriction on your downloading the distro for
free or obtaining the same by any means available to you.
You are however prevented from using the brand name of some distros.
Quite obviously if the Company is spending money on creating a brand
equity for it self I see no reason why some free loader should be
allowed to exploit it's brand image. Particularly by someone ignorant
enough to not know what the gpl is about let alone other things more
complex.
