Thanx a lot guys. It was finally module-init-tools which solved the
problem. Even upgrading modutils could also have worked, but I guess I
din't do it right.
The xscreensaver problem still persists.
Also, after starting X, all the text virtual consoles (Ctrl Alt Fn) vanish.
This happens even after logging out of X. There is no console display, just
a blinking cursor. I have enabled all sorts of dsiplays in the .confg file
an tried.
Moreover, bdflush is also unable to flush dirty buffers. And asks to fix
init scripts. I cannot use y because it gives me the login prompt.
Thanx again,

http://search.luky.org/linux-kernel.2003/msg00887.html and more precisely,

Please subscribe/read the LKML. Test-kernel related issues are best
discussed in a common forum which will help clear up isses wiht the kernel
development, and not a local LUG list.

Use the newer modutils available in the developer "Rusty"'s directory on ftp.kernel.org
Ur gnome problem should also resolve by the same as probably the acpi / agpart module doesn't load properly.

Frankly, I don't see how a "GUI" install would help. People complain about
the plethora of information a Debian installation asks them, so for some
people going from Win32 to Debian, or from other distros to Debian, with a
not so very complete understanding face an information overload. If the
current installation can include more information about howto do what to
obtain the necessary info, plus a better hardware detection routine,
installation might be easier for some people. Take a look at Libranet's
installer. Its Debian, but nice. As in the current installer has been
spruced up to detect "extra" devices over ieure's/ElectricElf's or standard
Debian installation ISOs. I am sure there are other Debian based distros
with spruced up installers.

PS:I am sorry, I know this message will mess up your threading...have a
problem with my MUA.
Hi,
I compiled the 2.6 kernel, (patched 2.5.74). The kernel boots fine but
modules are unable to load. It gives the error:
QM_MODULE function not implemented.
The module support is on in my .config file and so is unloading and force
unloading etc. Any of the insmod, depmod or modprobe don't work.
Problem 2:
I start gnome and lock the screen after a while. I enter the password to
get back to work, the system does not restore.
Error message:
xscreensaver: PAM grew by 68 K.
(shown in the xscreensaver itself)
Both these problems are with the 2.5/2.6 series kernel. 2.4.20 works fine.
Anyone has any idea?
