Dear Luggers, I finally got the printer to print a document in Open Office. The problem of pages getting ejected without printing was due to a postscript setting in the printer properties in the OO Printer Setup (./spadmin). The correct command line on OO setup for printing was lpr -P lx300 which I found out from the good site, http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/COMP/printing/linux_print.html However the page still kept getting ejected. This problem was traced to the setting for postscript in the spadmin where the 'from driver' was changed to '1'. This finally printed the page on my lx 300. To cross check I tried 'from driver' and '2' but they ejected the page. Only postscript 1 is accepted by my printer. The print quality is terrible but this is because it is a postscript printout which is a very basic printout. OO does not support lx300 in its drivers database so only a 'generic printer' can be selected. Generic printer driver supports only postscript. Maybe the new versions of OO 1.1.3 and the preview 2.0 may have better features. Is there any way by which OO can be forced to use a system's default driver, without postscript? Regards, Rony.

Debian on PCQuest

Hi all, This is just to announce that PC Quest this month has 1 DVD + 1 CD on the cover. The DVD is Debian Sarge. I haven't tried it out myself yet, but plan to do so as soon as I can make time. I dunno how they have organized it, but at first glance it seems to be a standard debian CD distro with the rest of the DVD filled with packages to install - 4.3Gb of them :-) The CD has some useful stuff for Windows - OpenOffice, Firefox, Java SDK, Eclipse etc. Chirag Wazir http://chirag.freeshell.org

Dear Sir, Sorry - I should have been more explicit in my requirements. I am specifically looking for help on interworking between Perl and C/C++. I want to be able to call Perl modules/subroutines and pass parameters from C/C++ programs and from those subroutines/modules I need to call the C/C++ class/function and pass parameters. My basic objective is to make an C/C++ application externally scriptable. Perl provides an excellent method for that (XS, SWIG, perlguts, perlembed, perlapi, etc.). how to install from hdd

I want to install FC from the harddisk. 1. For that, do I have have to copy the CDs as iso files to the harddisk or do I create a RPMS folder and stuff like that ? If iso files are required, what s/w is there to create iso from a CD ? I know only nero which gives nrg files. 2. Also will Fat32 partition suffice for this job or do I have to create a Ext2 partition ? 3. Later on, if I have to add/remove any packages, will the OS look for them in the 'old place' to speak of. In debian using cups and kprinter / xpp, replace the above with kprinter or xpp. This will run kprinter / xpp. I have tested it with hp710c, hp720c, hp4mp, hp3550 and epson lq1020. xpp is faster and provides much greater flexibility.U will have to install xprt-xprintorg and xpp if not already installed. Use debian - apt is fabulous and there is no commercial skullduggery to worry about. To be honest though I am cluless about redhat or any other distro for that matter. rgds jtd

Dear all, I have added Gujarati Transliteration input support to keyboard driver. By using this keyboard driver now you can type Gujarati by transliteration in any application on KDE and GNOME. Some of these applications are OpenOffice Koffice Kbabel Konqueror(web browser) Kate Kwrite (All these properly tested on SuSe 9.1 and RH90) These are the few names. It will work on all applications.
