problem with configuring gtkmm-config

hello everybody, i have got a problem...so can anyone help me = out with it ...ok the problem i am trying to compile and install FWBuiler f= irewall (www.fwbuilder.org) from it's source codei have resolved all it's d ependeces ... i have also installed gtmm's rpm (gtkmm-1.2.10-fr3) which i h= ad download from ( http://shrike.freshrpms.net/rpm.html?id=1321 ) now when i compile it as mentioned in the documentation i get an error as mentioned below checking for gtkmm-config... no configure: error: gtkmm not present or not configured alth= ought i have installed 1)gtkmm2-2.2.3-fr1.i386.rpm and 2)gtkmm2-devel-2.2.3= -fr1.i386.rpm now can anyone tell me what is the problem...and= if there is a problem in setting the path then please do guide me in that matter.... itunes, playfair and Sarovar.org

hello, i am sure ppl have had a look at shashdot there is a post discussing Apple's "cease and desist letter" ( not completly sure what it means ) to sarovar.org for hosting playfair. Playfair is software one can use for playing music purchased from Apple's iTunes service on PC's. Hi guys, I've been an ardent fan of redhat until now. Before you go "here cometh another convert to the debian church", let me tell you its Gentoo magic I'm talking about. There's something quite magically simple with gentoo thats unbeatable by other distros. First, source compiled from scratch. all u need to do is , well, nothing. agreed u need a 24/7 access to net to get it installed but let me tell you its worth the effort. I haven't faced a single compiling prob. or installation either. To give you a taste of whats running on my nifty P4 1.5ghz - 2.6.5 kernel with patches. alsa works without me doing anything. - gnome 2.6 for desktop. (emerge gnome-2.6, thats it!) - xorg-x11, (do i have the bragging rights for this one in the grp ? or is fedora already there ?) - the latest and the greatest of any software u can name of - kde, abiword, oo, xmms, mplayer, gaim, ayttm all the standard fare. Name any software and i'll only tease u by installing it in the next half an hour or so. And best of all ! compiled for my machine only ! with flags of my own spec. Now before we start whining how it isn't possible for everyone to install a source based distro, there's precompiled packages avlbl. from gentoo on a single iso that removes the pain of downloading most of them. the rest which you would want can be downloaded onto a cd, dumped into distfiles and presto it picks em and works its magic. Best of all - if u ain't happy with the options compiled into ur prog. change em and it won't crib ! Mandrake was close to beating them, but they lost it when they couldn't get rid of the dependency hell, and I don't blame them. And their forums are a part of the internet legend now. Post ur query and the guys ans in the next few mins. Gentoo is yet to make a decent hw detection tool tho. and a nice installer wouldn't hurt. If you've used linux for any decent period of time, its time u give this simply flexible distro a whirl on ur spare hdd. installing GAIM (PCQ edition) on redhat 9

Hi. I have moved to Redhat 9.0 from PCQ Linux 2004. I prefer the gaim that came witn pcqlinux as it allowed to me to log on to msn seamlessly. I then tried to install the rpm from the PCQ CD gaim-0.71-2.i386.rpm but it gave me the following error message: Failed dependencies: libaspell.so.15 is needed by gaim-0.71-2 libgtkspell.so.0 is needed by gaim-0.71-2 then i downloaded the gaim which supports msn but i got the same error message as above. Any hints? Also downloaded amsn but it asks for the tls1 path to be specified in preference, which i did not it still does not start up (continues to show the popup window to select the system arch and download the tls1 files.) abhi

Clean shut down on a linux machine, via managed ups

Hi all. Thanks for the various posts regarding gaim. I am still downloading and satisfying all dependencies. Should take some more time (hopefully the last rpm i am downloading) Now to another issue: The Setup is Linux (ofcourse). Redhat 9.0 Need to have a smart shutdown procedure in place where in the event of a power failure (ups takes over being the obvious step), but in case of an extended power outage, the system should do a clean shutdown. The UPS will be attached ONLY to the linux machine so 500/700 VA would suffice. What next? What are the options? a) Managed UPS? if yes, which one? cost? b) Ordinary will do? if yes, then what daemon will work? Any and all help is always appreciated... thanks! abhi
