cyber cafe setup

hi, in a cybercafe setup i have a mandrake server connected to dsl and squid and dhcp. The other machines are a variety of windoze stuff. I would like the facillity of enabling/disabling internet access for specific machines from the server. If i give each windoze machine a specific ip address, this can be done. But the user can always change the ip address in windoze. Any suggestions on how to do it? -- regards kg tally ho! http://avsap.sourceforge.net

Muttprint

Hi, I am using Fedora Core 2 w/ muttprint 0.72a-1 from http://muttprint.sourceforge.net/ I am getting the following error message : Can't call method "convert" on an undefined value at /usr/bin/muttprint line 1866. with muttprint 0.72c-1 also I get the same error, only, the error comes at line 1914. the program convert from imagemagic is already installed on my machine. The offending line in both is the same: return $utf2native->convert($string); could you please help me ? I checked the faq but this is not mentioned there. I wrote to the maintainer and he replied asking: ------- is 'libtext-iconv-perl' installed on your system? -------- My answer was as follows but I have recieved no reply from him to date. -------------------------------------------------- I can't find this package. I don't know anything about perl. Connectivity issues in Oracle on Linux

Hi Sneh, You need to set the environment variable - oracle sid. export ORACLE_SID=<sid> or setup the same in your bash profile BTW can you lend me your RHEL AS 3.0 for a couple of days for some simulations. Connectivity issues in Oracle on Linux

hi all, I have installed redhat Enterprise linux 3.0 and Oracle 9.2.0.4 on a server.2 databases have been created on the same server. while connecting to these databases through an OS authenticated user thru Oracle it connects to an idle instance.prior installations with the same configurations have no problem.we are using exactly the same (as those for the working ones)bash_profile and enviornment variables for this as well. Following is the message on the server----------- Under ideal condition : sqlplus "sys as sysdba" SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on Tue Jan 18 17:42:18 2005 Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved. firewall setup for ISP

Hi all, I am planning a firewall for an ISP setup,where I can filter the well known viruses and protect my N/W from intrusion and can be easily monitored and edited. I am planning for iptables as it is much more versatile,can u suggest me to how to go 'bout with the iptables as I'll have to open almost all the ports and block the ones which are prone to viruses and secondly how do I block the common viruses and is it possible to block spam and mail related viruses through iptables(I already got scanners installed on the mail servers) or suggest me with some better alternative or a package for this kind of setup... If you have some app that has no GNU/linux equiv you can use colinux. http://www.colinux.org/ Colinux allows you to run GNU/linux and windows at the same time like VMware. unlike vmware tho it is free and opensource - could not locate any licence on the site though. rhds jtd
