Kernel support seems to be stable now - 2.6.13.
However captive uses the native ntfs.sys to provide ntfs access.
It works so far.http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/

Hi folks,
I'm in town again for a couple of days, until very late tomorrow night.
It would be cool to have some coffee in a Barista (or wherever) if any
LUG members are about. I'm staying up in Juhu Beach near the airport.
I write for http://www.linuxuser.co.uk/ (and others) and would like to
get a feel for the Linux use in Mumbai partly for my own interest, and
partly because I would like to write about it in the future.
Gimme an email if you're about - or SMS +447776131337 if they don't
charge 1 lakh for it :-)
Jon.

I have a tape device(/dev/st0) attached on a debian system. I want to access
this tape from another linux machine. I can do mt related command using ssh
from other machine. But I am not able to use rdump and rrestore to this tape
drive from other machine. When I give command
rrestore -if abcd.res.in:/dev/st0
It gives
abcd.res.in: connection refused
login to abcd.res.in as root is failed.
I have entered proper entries in ~root/.rhosts and /etc/equiv.
Can anybody help on this. Can anybody suggest expert opinion.

That is a good plan. It is much cheaper than MTNL ADSL.

Unfortunately the latter falls at a much higher rate :-(.

(Having stayed in both UK and India) Internet access in India is currently more expensive in both absolute + relative terms.
In most urban areas of UK, you can get unlimited 512Kbps/1MBps broadband for 10 pounds a month. For starter plans, you may have a connection fee of 20-30 pounds, but you do often get a basic ADSL modem for free. You do have to sign a contract for 12 months though. Normally, 1 MBPS access shall give you download speeds of upto 100kbps from a UK or european mirror site. (and expect around 50kbps from 512Kbps connection).
You can also get some "monthly download limit capped" broadband for an even cheaper rate. (6 pounds pm?)
In India, you pay close to 700-1000 Rupees (10-12) pounds for a slightly slower copnnection. Depending on the ISP, you may have monthly caps on downloads as well. I am not very sure what the rates currently are, (looks like they have gone down a bit). In Bangalore, till last year, you could expect to pay 1000-1200 per month for a 128Kbps "broadband" from an ISP called Hathway, which had a download limit of 2GB pm, and you paid 2 rupees per Meg after that.
In summary,
1) rates in absolute terms are generally higher than UK for comparable services.
2) If you consider this in relation to average wage, its even higher. (minimum wage in UK ~5 pounds per hr)
p.s. and we never had a freeserve like ISP in India :-( !!

Hi,
I have two pcs. One FC4 and one Windows XP. I have to run a script
test.shevery time I complete a particular task.
To do that I login to Linux thru ssh from XP machine and run the script
manually.
I want to automate all of this i.e., from loging in to FC4 till the
execution of the Bash script.
I think it is not possible thru telnet. I could not find anything in
google.
any suggestions or pointers?
thanks.
Best Regards,
Raj
