Hi!
I use FC3 at home and I have taken a Touchtel/Airtel DSL Connection.
The trouble is that I want to use my Micronet USB ADSL Broadlink
SP3302 Modem in Linux. This modem comes with drivers only for Windows.
I checked the manufacturer's website. Though they want their products
to work with Linux, they donot support Linux(??). I have also checked
the eciadsl Linux driver page. No mention of Micronet's products over
there either. This modem connects directly to the USB port and does
not go through an Ethernet card.
Can you help me use this modem in Linux? What do I need to do?
Thanx
John
Hi,
Don't know if this is old news... Just snagged a book off the shelves.. Linux Bible 2005 - Chris. Negus. (I got it for rs.440)
I'm just about to finish the 2nd chapter. so far so good ... not ready to comment on the book yet.
But the killer thing is that the book comes with a DVD + CD ( the list as far I could see)
DVD - Knoppix (bootable), RedHat FC 2, Slackware, SUSE LiveCD
CD - Damn Small Linux (bootable - a knoppix variant), Debian Sarge
Knoppix rocks! Yesterday was the historic day that I heard an mp3 play from linux + the sweet thing was that I was running linux
off a Disc. No partitioning, no installation woes. "It simply worked !!!"
I'd recommend this for someone who is just trying out Linux for the first time and doesn't want to "Initialize" his HDD
Thanks,
Gishu Pillai

oh by the way!! i am downloading an ISO off the reliance broadband even as we
speak.
getting me upto 50K/s. estimated time for 650 MB is around 3.5 hours....sometimes
it dropped to 43.. maybe the server is jammed else it could go higher. now how
cool is that.

You must be joking. The goods that we produce are actually at least
6 to 10 yrs obsolete crap. Most of the manufacturers (including the
Phoren ones) completely ignore the standards prevalent in their
parent countries. Most of the products we export are due to e
nvironment advantages (basmati rice, mangoes, shrimp) which have
ZERO tech inputs, clothes because cotton and hence upstream goods
are made here with cheap labour, and highily customised products /
services which require individual attention to get some performance.
Nothing that we export is because of quality - imo exception being
art (religion, music, dance etc).
> but we just need to
> work on the pricing factor and we'll be all set :)
To have quality and cost effective manufacture we require massive
infrastructure which would take atleast 20 yrs (and that is a very
very charitable estimate) to reach the same level of say Japan
today. We require total removal of government messing in business.
We require total change in the political landscape (changing
majority wins to proportional representation). Not to mention
other baseline requirements like education, sanitation etc.
We are where we are because most of our infrastructure was built
by the brits (for their own ulterior purposes) otherwise we are
about as great as Ghana (organise your gang, raid a diamond mine,
mine diamonds until the next gang fills u with lead) or Yemen
(10 mile trek for water)
yawn same old story yr after yr.

Hi Linuxers
I'm trying to install wine on SuSe Linux 9 & getting following error.
Unresolved dependencies:
Installing wine-20050419-0.1[Local Packages]
There are no installable providers of (any)libXxf86dga.so.1[[Any]] for wine-20050419-0.1[Local Packages]
wine-20050419-0.1 is scheduled to be installed, but this is not possible because of dependency problems.
Marking this resolution attempt as invalid.
From where I can get these dependencies?

Hi,
Anyone has freeBSD 4.9 discs? The books available are with 5 and Linuxbazar has
only 5.3 and I am specifically looking for 4.9
For me to download will take decades or atleast months. Is there anyone out there
with a formula 1 connection or better still has 4.9?
The ISO is available at
http://www.linorg.sc.usp.br/iso/FreeBSD/4.9/

abhishek
