I 've put up a report on connecting to Pacenet on Ubuntu.

I would appreciate if you guys go through it and correct any errors.
Also, documentation about connecting from Red Hat, Mandriva, etc. is needed.

I think we all need to ask ourselves that while we have expectations
from this list, what can we do for it. Some time back there was a
discussion on why there is lack of Indian contribution to development of
FOSS. Lets put on our thinking caps to find out what we GLUG-BOM can do
for Linux. We also need to find centralised locations nearer to railway
stations or major junctions so that members from all over Mumbai can
attend regular LUG meets.
May I propose a simple assignment for this list? Some time back when I
was with Krish, I mentioned to him the need for a linux brochure as,
other than live CDs, there is nothing in text to distribute to people
from the windows background. Many people may not want to use the CDs or
may not know what work to do with them. So can we as a list create a
brochure for Linux. We need to start with an overall picture and then a
basic partitioning information to show them the difference between the
windows and linux partitions and the file system hierarchy like 'C:\'
and '/'. Provide a lot of links too. There may be brochures available on
the net but lets do it our way.
We could create the brochure on the net as a wiki or some online room
where the project grows and leave the printing to the downloader.
Regards,
Rony.

Hi all
I am planning to do a little write up on gprof this weekend & put it up on
the wiki.
Is this OT ?
With flame wars on the rise, I don't want to take any risk :)

The battle for wireless network drivers Written by Jem Matzan Dec
20, 2006 at 08:52 PM
"BSD and Linux programmers have had a lot of success in creating drivers for
new computer hardware in a timely manner, but much of their effort has been
without the support of major hardware manufacturers. Intel, Marvell, Texas
Instruments and Broadcom, though separate and competing entities, seem by
one consent to prevent non-Microsoft operating systems from working properly
with some of their most widely-used network chips."
It is a bit long but really worth it. The author has interviewed many of the
wireless chip manufactures and gives an insight into the issues surrounding
wireless card drivers for Free and Open Source Operating Systems. He
suggests the main issue is the lack of communication between the developers
and the manufacturers. Take this into account when you buy a new wireless
network card and support the companies which provides specifications and
documentation to the Free and Open Source Operating Systems developers.

Do you Yahoo!?
Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Mail beta.
http://new.mail.yahoo.com
The mailman has received one of my threads titled
"Want to install Fedora Core 6 without installing?"
but it hasn't delivered it to me.
I have selected the option of "Receive a copy of your
post to the list" in the subscription options page.
Did someone (or anyone) receive this message? I have
passed a link describing about the LIVE CD and the
link to download it.

my dear brothers, the issue was not of not being able
to view linux partitions on windows, i just wanted to
know how does one uninstall kubuntu. and for the
record, to the person who said he does not see me
using any of the gnu/linux versions, i am using ubuntu
right now instead of kubuntu. i could have very well
installed ubuntu over kubuntu, but i thought knowing
how to uninstall it would add to little knowledge.
anyways, thank u all for the help. i got it done.
thanks again

Hi All!
I will meeting a charitable hospital management tomorrow. They want to
migrate to FOSS technologies for their hospital. This hospital caters
to about 1000 OPD cases on daily bases.
They already have some accounting, attendance and payroll software
running on MS Windows. They would also like to know if the same can me
run on the Linux (GNU/Linux) system.
I would like to get inputs from people who are associated with health
care industry what are the components and tools required for Hospital
Management. Are these tools available in FOSS. If yes, how good are
they? What amount of customisation will be required?
TIA for all your feedback and inputs.
With regards,
