Dear Linuxers,
I am working on resurrecting the erstwhile Linux Delhi Hall Of Shame,
which lists a set of (typically Indian or useful to Indian) websites
which are not standards compliant, in the sense that they are designed
to work with specific proprietary software applications or operating
systems. Full details of criteria and current list of sites in the
Hall of Shame are available here:
http://wiki.linux-delhi.org/cgi-bin/twiki/view/Main/HallOfShame
I would request you to familiarize …
[View More]yourself with the criteria which
warrant additions to the list, and add relevant sites to the list as
well. If you do not want to edit the Wiki yourself, please mail me and
I shall add the site to the Wiki.
I appreciate your comments and suggestions. Please help in making this
effort a success.
Thanks are due to Raj "Raju" Mathur of Linux Delhi for his advice in
helping me get this done.
Thank you.

Hi,
I have recently bought the acer 4710z laptop, with linpus linux
installed. I formatted and installed Fedora 7 on it. The webcam (acer
Crystal eye) was not detected thus i tried the script given on
forums.....http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=169878
After this i started experiencing problems with yum and though webcam
was detected, was not compatible with video drivers.
The GUI of software updater also hangs most of the time.
Internet connection on my laptop is taken from my …
[View More]windows xp desktop.
and i am a newbie with linux.
Please guide to restore yum and also regarding the webcam.
thank you.

We are facing a peculiar problem. I'm providing as much details
as I can. Even so, tell me if I should provide more info.
LAMP server before install - RHEL 3 with Apache 2, PHP 4, MySQL 4.
After install - RHEL 5, Apache 2.2.3, PHP 5.1.6, MySQL 5.0.2
The problem we are facing is the site performing badly when
accessed from certain locations - from our corporate LAN,
which is behind Squid. Certain colleagues in other companies (we
suspect behind they are also behind Squid or some proxy) also
…
[View More]reported with gemeric messages like "site isn't loading".
Some symptoms are:
1. Images, CSS, JS files not loading or loading incompletely.
2. If we view source, we see the HTML is fully downloaded, but not rendered.
2. PHP pages being asked to be saved (the saved pages are blank)
This problem is prominently noticeable in PHPMyAdmin.
3. The performance improves 9may be illusion) over time, but any new
drastic changes brings it to square one.
4. Awstats page takes forever to load comletely.
5. Sometimes the sites are inaccessible in toto.
6. Files not downloading through FTP (even 200K fails).
The perplexing thing is I and my colleague have accessed the server
from home (Triband and cable net respectively) and everything works!
We don't know what the problem is, where it is, etc.
Any ideas?

is about a nobody-organization called the OpenDocument Foundation, having
nothing to do with OASIS, proponents of the ODF. The shills have already
been unmasked by some knowledgeable slashdot posters. Please don't get
upset.

Hi,
Thanks for using ayttm!
Get the latest version (0.5.0-10) from Debian,
http://packages.debian.org/sid/ayttm
or from, http://ayttm.sourceforge.net/files.shtml
You will feel better since it is GTK2 port. Thanks to great work of Siddhesh!

update:
Installed virtualbox. Worked fine. Then tried win98SE as guest OS. failed
miserably. just didnt go beyond setup.
Then tried winxpsp2 and it installed ok....
Messed up my resolution even for ubuntu host. would not go beyond 640x480.
Had to do a rebuild for xorg.conf and it restored the resolution.
applications run fine. sound worked well. chose the OSS sound card.
What has not worked yet is the LAN/internet through the guest OS.
I like the "work seamlessly" feature in virtualbox. Still there are issues
with the resolutions and its a pain to fiddle around each time with the
resolutions to get a true full screen. but speed wise, it was fine.
Guest 10 GB with 256 MB.
Host original was 512 MB.
Now trying to install QEMU on a 7.10 desktop edition AMD64.

As per my knowledge if you migrate to PHP5 from PHP 4 then you need to do
changes in php.ini also.
Unfotunately I dont remember exact changes but I had done this 3 months back
for one of our PHP-Mysql application. I remember even some PHP4 functions
dont work in PHP5. So need to convert …
[View More]those also.

Hi,
Are you working on any free software or open source (FOSS) project? Do
you know anyone who is?
There's a great opportunity for all Indian FOSS contributors to showcase
their work at the national level, and perhaps global too! Plus, the
development team (or individual) can get a minimum cash prize of Rs 25,000!
But, there's more to it than just cash prize. The winners will get
exclusive coverage in LINUX For You magazine, and openITis.com (aka
linuxforu.com). Which in turn could mean:…
[View More] (a) more media coverage for
the project and its developers, (b) publicity amongst targeted
customers, and (c) more contributors getting attracted to the project.
Launched with an initial kitty of Rs 5 lakhs, the FOSS India Awards aim
to recognise India's top 20 FOSS projects. The LINUX For You team is
working with FOSII (Forum for Open Source Initiatives in India) on this
venture.
The registration for FOSS India Awards is FREE! All one has to do to
register is to visit http://www.openitis.com/awards/ and fill in the
two-minute form. Registration for FOSS India Awards is open till 15th
December '07. The awards will be announced during Open Source India Week
(aka LinuxAsia 2008) during the 2nd week of February '08.
Please do forward this message to anyone whom you believe is working on
a FOSS project, and is a good candidate.
Let's prove to the World that India contributes to FOSS too...
Best Wishes!
LINUX For You team
