Sabayon-Mandriva Conflict

During installation of Sabayon 3.25,the GRUB didn't have an entry for Mandriva 07,therefore,I added an entry labeled Mandriva Linux 2007 and pointed it to root partition for Mandriva namely sda5(partition 5,HDD 0) for Sabayon.But Mandriva refuses to boot with the error message given below and tells me to press any key.When I press a key,it sends me back to GRUB.FYI,my home partition(sda7 partition 7,HDD 0) is separate from my root partition in Mandriva. All partitions are logical. On the advice of a friend who knows something about Gentoo and Sabayon,I modified the entry for Mandriva in /boot/grub/menu.lst as follows: title 'Mandriva Linux 2007' root(hd0,4) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda5 initrd /boot/initrd.gz Presently,the error message is:(/*....*/ are comments and not part of the error message) Booting 'Mandriva Linux 2007' root(hd0,4)/*Since I have only 1 HDD,hd0 and since Mandriva root is in hda5,partition number-1=4*/ Filesystem type is ext2fs,partition type 0x83/*But I have all linux partitions as ext3fs!*/ kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda5 /*I tried sda5 too,with and without(w/o) ro and hda5 with and w/o ro*/ [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1e00, size=0x1b68d6] /*All greek and latin to me*/ initrd /boot/initrd.gz Error 15:File not found. Remeber a proxy and gateway are different although they can be on the same machine. If you have a gateway then it is not forwarding ICMP ECHO packets. GPLv3, Linux and GPLv2 Compatibility

Hi, Very interesting discussions on the effect of GPLv3 on Linux, the kernel and GNU/Linux distributions. http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2007/04/gplv3_linux_and.html It discusses many of the corner cases and analyses the effects of glibc going to LGPL and distribution copyrights. openSUSE 10.2 Dual Layer DVD

Hi, In case anybody is interested in openSUSE 10.2, you can pick up a copy from the Novell office. All you need to do is to come down to the Novell Office and pick up a copy. Its completely free of any cost and you don't need to provide a blank DVD in return. The media is a Dual Layer DVD with all the packages. It includes a 32-bit as well as a 64-bit version of openSUSE. Connected to the internet (MTNL Triband) using USB in Kubuntu 6.06

Hello List, I was trying to connect to the internet using different Live CDs including Freespire, Ubuntu 6.10, Xubuntu 6.10. through the USB port that was conne cted to the ADSL (Dlink 502-T) router. Somehow, all the above didn't manage to configure the device automatically on boot up, though Ubuntu 6.10 listed the device on the device manger. I finally tried Dapper Drake (Kubuntu 6.06) and it automatically configured the device (allocating IP address through DHCP) and Konqueror (my smart browser - as I call it) proved that the device is working and I'm connected to the internet. I wonder, if Ubuntu has the same base as Kubuntu, why didn't ubuntu do it? AFAIK, the desktop environment is the different, but the base is same, isn't it? (This was on Dell E1405 running the Kubuntu 6.06 Live CD). Kububtu 6.10 DVD Installation.

Hello All, I am so happy. :) Finally I got rid of Etch testing and installed my long awaited Kubuntu 6.10 dvd. It has more boot options than 6.06 and the dvd has a server version included. So for installing a server one has to type 'server' or 'server-expert' at boot prompt. There is an option for command line only install in the main menu itself. Its paint program is much improvised from the earlier one that was like M$ Paint. This one has 'Krita' which has good features like photoshop or gimp. I love KDE. Long live KDE. Cheers to all the KDE guys. Keep up the good work. Multimedia audio/video is not proper as usual even after all the upgrades and codec installations. But thats normal in Linux. Open media formats play fine. Finally, those who have always been searching for an option to boot any Ubuntu cd into a live root console only, I found the solution from the net. Simply use the option that allows you to edit the boot string and add 'single' at the end of the line and hit enter. This boots the system live into a root prompt without asking for a password. I have hunted for this in the cd menu itself but could never find it. I tried 1 and rescue but that did not help. I recollect using 'single' for Red Hat. -- Regards, Rony.
