please let me know (see previous mail which may not be put on the
linuxusers list)
1. I have Kubuntu LINUX 8.0.4 from CANONICAL (ONLY security upgrades
are free from 3 years).
2. How do I install virtualbox on Kubuntu LINUX 8.0.4 or should I say
accomodate UBUNTU 8.10 ----- newer linux version --- free and legally
for a 10 user organization or even say a 100 user organization ----
read the license below, i have to install it manually it appears to
say ---- no sysadmin tools can be used or i have to let each USER
download virtualbox binaries from sun and install it themselves.
3. now, my problem. I get virtualbox, I get Kubuntu LINUX 8.0.4
------- my OLD machine no longer accepts UBUNTU LINUX 8.10.
So do I install ANY LINUX which virtualbox supports ---- and then hope
that virtualbox supports all the LATER versions of LINUX (including
8.10) so that I can get all the upgrades from the world on the LATER
Linuxes and stick to my old tested Kubuntu 8.0.4 ---------------------
and have LICENSED copies of Window running under virtualbox.
I mean how much RAM will I end up using on my machine.

open virtualbox is there
and for binaries read this chief feature for small organizations where
people themselves install virtualbox ---- they have to install it
THEMSELVES --- please ask sun for clarifications.
What exactly do you mean by personal use and academic use in the
Personal Use and Evaluation License?
Personal use is when you install the product on one or more PCs
yourself and you make use of it (or even your friend, sister and
grandmother). It doesn't matter whether you just use it for fun or run
your multi-million euro business with it. Also, if you install it on
your work PC at some large company, this is still personal use.
However, if you are an administrator and want to deploy it to the 500
desktops in your company, this would no longer qualify as personal
use. Well, you could ask each of your 500 employees to install
VirtualBox but don't you think we deserve some money in this case?
We'd even assist you with any issue you might have.
Use at academic institutions such as schools, colleges and
universities by both teachers and students is covered. So in addition
to the personal use which is always permitted, academic institutions
may also choose to roll out the software in an automated way to make
it available to its students and personnel.
is there a knotes like equivalent programme for the cli. Knotes has a
send feature. This is a feature i need.
There are a number of X based apps, but i could not locate one for the
cli.

Hello,
Here is a nice radio station that plays songs 24/7, listed year wise. It
runs in Linux without any problems.

Then there will be no retaliation to spark in turn your

List,
After due diligence, List Administrators and Moderators have decided the
following changes in List Moderation policy.
All existing and new members will be removed from default moderation and
only offending members will be put under moderation after a member violates
any list guidelines. The moderator(s) will warn the offenders twice
privately followed by a public warning before putting the offending member
on moderation.
The above policy change is to improve the participation from all members and
remove the delays caused due to default moderation policy. All members,
existing and new, are requested to go through the list guidelines once more
and comply with the guidelines while posting to the list.
We are also pleased to announce Mehul Ved as our newest moderator for the
list.
We also welcome Nicholas Alphonso as our new Wiki Admin. He is a regular
contributer to Wikipedia as well.
Looking forward to more action on the list!
With regards,

Hi all,
I am a newbie here. I wonder if this is the right place to raise this query. I wish to know how does RHCE certification really helps. I am RHCE myself. The classes don't really help much beyond the scope of the exam and the hands on experience one can get is when some employer is willing to accept a fresher. In recent times, I noticed the trend asking for minimum 6months of Linux experience. I remember the time when RHCE certified professionals were in short supply but with the word spreading fast there is a glut and that, coupled with recession has taken a toll on how much an RHCE certified guy earns. There are some who earn as Rs 7000 to 8000 PM. Are the times indeed so bad or the companies are just exploiting?

I'd like to point out some examples which support my point.
A school has many grades, and multiple divisions per grade.
As an analogy - not all students use the same classroom.
You might suggest that each thread is a 'virtual classroom' of its
own - but that's not true IMHO. Since it's all mixed, the extra effort it
takes to filter out the interesting from the not-so-interesting (all this
is very subjective - we are not saying these are good and bad
respectively) - makes people really interested in specific causes
lose interest.
Moreover, the list is fairly open - not moderated by draconian
power-clingers.
Many new people keep joining, and not all are well-versed with list
etiquettes and/or the levels are wildly varying.
IMHO, again, I believe a community can thrive when there are clear paths for
people to *grow* systematically along some well-defined paths (rather than
people left fending for themselves) - this is suggestive, and of course
people
are always allowed in an open community to set their own standards and
paths,
and ask for/earn support.
High noise-to-signal ratios can reduce efficiencies and over a period of
time
make people disinterested. I can certainly vouch for the fact that about 8
years
ago, the level on this list was much better than what it has been in the
small
duration now that I've been a part again.
My 2 paise.
Thanks,
jaju
Who says that non-Indians can spell good ! While bad
spelling is bad how can you pass judgment on a whole
nation ? So typical of the majority of my dear
educated friends who castigate the country and our
habits at the drop of the hat. My apologies to the
list for sounding so harsh but how does it matter if I
make my own acronym .... if it did not make sense you
can just ask what it means (be sure it will not hurt
your ego to show that you did not know what it meant
!)

Hi,
There are five ages of man.
Infanthood, childhood, teenager, householder, oldman.
Now, when does wisdom come --- when you wish you had been better and
renounced everything and regret everything bad you did.
But as an infant, child, teenager, householder, and even as an old man
------ you do need to ACQUIRE things to live and die.
So why are you renouncing acquisition ---- it is only greed you renounce.
So why not come up with the INDIAN SOFTWARE NO GREED LICENSE for both
corporates and the indian FOSS movement.
For instance :
1. for copyrights:
To be freely used, at HOW MUCH PAYMENT (free or nominal or one day's
wages or one minute's wages of a person), for any purpose whatsoever
------ provided the purpose is good and ethical and moral.
NOT MERELY
To be freely used, at no cost, for any purpose whatsoever
---------------------------------------
SO FOR SOFTWARE ---- stripping off the legalese --- what points do you
want to embed in your FOSS license
------- and why is FOSS seeking war with the commercial movement by
seeking to destroy the commercial movement.
1. The software should be open-source.
2. Perhaps x% of the code can be hidden for commercial or security reasons.
3. The entire software should be open.
4. You can use the software for any purpose whatsoever or only those
that are ethical, legal, and promote understanding.
5. WAR is not renounced because one day you may need the weapons of
war to defend the human race against extra-terrestrials in faster than
light travel -------------- or perhaps war is renounced by the users
of the software ------ or perhaps the companies that make weapons
cannot use this software ------------------------- this is a highly
contentious statement ---------------------------- tread with care
--------- what about war against computers, war against living beings,
war against dogs, war against bacteria.
6. The software should be backwards compatible for 3 months.
I mean ---------- the LINUX users mailing list in Mumbai has over 1000
members ------------ and you cannot write your own license.
