Call for Contributors for a FOSS project

Hi all, We are looking for contributors[+] to Ayttm[1][2], a universal instant messaging client. Here are the possible contribution scenarios along with skills required to get these things done: 0) Smileys and widget icons: Should know gimp/inkscape 1) Developers: C/C++ and gtk2/glib2 2) Developers to improve various chat protocol support: C/C++, protocol dump analysis (tcpdump, wireshark) 3) Developers to improve AIM/ICQ support: C/C++, protocol dump analysis (tcpdump, wireshark)[*] 4) Translators 5) Website/documentation maintainers: HTML, CSS, PHP, English. Basic image editing for screenshots or website design 6) Developers/Maintainers for the windows port: Windows development tools, C/C++, gtk2, glib2 Those interested may reply off-list. Please note that one does not exactly have to be a guru or an experienced hacker to give any of the above a shot. All we are looking for are people dedicated enough to want to learn any of the above skills and implement them. Dear all, I plan to do RHCE certification, I have familiarity with Linux servers worked for one year. Is it advisable to install Linux (RHE 4) at home PC and learn on own and do a certification. are there any CBT nuggets available? kindly advice thanks in advance, Raman.

But if you have a good familiarity on Linux Servers, a very different market can be explored which has a huge demand (the Open Source Telecommunications market) especially after a lot of new Telco and VAS players coming in the market, the need for Asterisk Training and Certification has risen up to quite a good extent. All these new generation VAS companies require prior work expereince on Asterisk or Certification which can assure them on the expertise, and hence my recommendation on doing an Asterisk course along with Official Digium Certified Asterisk Professional (dCAP) would raise the bar and eventually help candidates land into a better paying jobs within India itself. Nevertheless It may sound like blowing our own trumpet, if any candidate is looking to explore better probablity in landing up a job, they can consider actively looking at an Asterisk Training n Certification course to get them booted into the VAST Open Source Telecommunications market not only in India but world wide. 'Familiarity' or real time hands on experience with GNU/Linux or a truly community edition operating system like CentOS 5.3 is _not_at_all_ a requirement, You need to just know how to hack (I did not say crack) the North American Linux Vendor's certification exams. The exam is designed in such a manner to very large extend that only people already familiar with the exam pattern (read having paid The North American Linux Vendor 250$ a couple of times as exam fees and having failed in the first few attempts, and and also purchased their so called study materials) can pass. The short cut way is to attend the 'very very special' coaching classes at some places in Mumbai (including at Vibrant and Ultramax). The rates of 'very special coaching' package at the coaching centers can be reduced if you know how to bargain well enough or have a few people as a batch with you. (If you want to know about the rates, kindly contact me off list). A phd in Fish Market style bargaining always helps on such occasions. Please use CentOS 5.3 and set up a small home lab consisting of at least 2 or 3 workstations to prepare for the exam. Try configuring one GNU/Linux box as a router. If possible get an MTNL connection with a static I.P Address (that is what I use these days), It took me just 1 day to get the Static I.P Address assigned (for the TriBand 256 Unlimited Downloads scheme) from the MTNL Vashi Office. The Modus operandi to get the Static I.P Address assigned within a day is to visit the MTNL office and request them (read pester) very very very very politely till they give you one. And you know Bingo it works!!!!! The whole process of setting this home lab and configuring the Hardware and Software itself would make you more than competent to handle the North American Linux Vendor's exam and most importantly will give you hands on experience with basic GNU/Linux Systems and Network Administration. CBT tutorials are good but nothing beats setting up the lab yourself. ps:- I am a practicing Senior GNU/Linux Systems Administrator and I do use Cent0S 5.3 at my work place and also on my personal laptop these days and have been using various GNU/Linux distributions for close to 7+ years including the North American Vendor's offerings. AMR to MP3 or other Audio Formats

Hello, Came across this usefull utility to convert mobile audio files (.amr) to other audio formats. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=174215 The relevant link and instructions are in the second last and last message. Earlier messages have broken links. http://www.miksoft.net/products/mmc-lin.tar.gz Somehow the 'MobileMusicConverter' script file in the unzipped folder does not open on clicking. It has to be run in a gui terminal using ./MobileMediaConverter Then it will open a gui for the program. Rest is very direct and intuitive. [OT] internship opportunities in NGOs related to FOSS

Hi all, I'm a second year engineering student. As part of our curriculum at DA-IICT ( http://www.daiict.ac.in ) we are required to do a rural internship ( ie. work with an NGO and contribute to society in some way ). Now I really want to do this well, so I figured if I could find a place where I could work with technologies I'm passionate about, that would be the best. So I'm really hoping to find some organisation which uses FOSS extensively in its day to day activities and could use another hand. The details are: Time frame: 2-3 weeks in December 2009 Place: willing to go almost anywhere, but I live in mumbai Areas I can work on: * Web development * Software development * Computer/Network setup * System administration * Teaching FOSS My resume can be found at http://22bits.exofire.net/resume.html PS. Knoppix was developed by GNU/Linux consultant Klaus Knopper. When starting a program it is loaded from the optical disc and decompressed into a RAM drive. The decompression is transparent and on-the-fly. Although Knoppix is primarily designed to be used as a Live CD, it can also be installed on a hard disk like a typical operating system. squid failover using RHCS

Hi guys, I have configured squid server on two nodes. my requirement is to have a squid failover using RHCS. RHCS is also configured with a virtual ip monitoring both the servers. virtual ip :- 192.168.1.100 Now the issue is that my virtual ip is configured on all browsers with port 8080 for proxy purpose. ie:192.168.1.100:8080 now the request coming from browsers with virtual ip and port number 8080 are properly directed to a active server but the request going out from the active squid server doesn't takes virtual ip it takes its on eth0 ip ie:192.168.1.1 of Active server and hits firewall due to which firewall blocks the ip and hence no page is displayed. so what i have did was i have configured iptables postrouting which nats all the outgoing request from eth0 to virtual ip. #iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.1 -o eth0 -j SNAT --to- 192.168.1.100 After this rule am able to receive web pages. but cluster doesn't works at all. what i mean is if i try to shutdown active server the virtual ip doesn't shifts to passive server. note:- before applying iptables the cluster works fine but cat get webpages as mention earlies. please help guys if any body have any solution or have configured RHCS for the same. -- Regards Advait Raut
