Sanchar InfoTech (SIPL) is a for-profit organisation in the field of promoting and supporting IT in education Pratham InfoTech Foundation and Pratham Mumbai Education Initiative are undertaking a Localization project for creating Open Education Resources in Indian Languages with the help of Sanchar Infotech Private Limited. Sanchar InfoTech is looking for 2 persons with flare for FOSS with following profile 1. Good knowledge in Marathi ( soon other languages may be needed) 2. Facility and fluency with FOSS environment and web 3. Keen interest in education and educational software 4. This is not a coding job but familiarity with programming needed 5. Readiness to travel ,mostly urban or semi-urban interior as needed Job involves 1. Localization of educationl contents/softwares 2. coordinating of translations of educational content as open education resources (OER) 3. Support translators with computer skills 4. maintenance of the web site with content, liaison with software developers if any changes needed 5. Testing of the localized educational contents including translated interfaces of softwares 6. advocacy of the OER in schools 7. support to managers of school computer labs with FOSS environment and OER 8. training of teachers Qualification 1. Formal qualification unimportant : graduates from any stream or technical diploma holders preferred 2. Good knowledge of Marathi and English essential : Sample translation will be used as test 3. I have a camcorder. > Rgds > JTD Thanks, I think I can arrange for about 3 camcorders if we really need it, I have 1 DVD based one at hand, so I think it shall work out. I'm just a little worried about the installfest, because the 20 pc's have only CD Rom drives and 256 Mb Ram. I managed to boot to a netinstaller image using PXEboot, but netinstaller wanted to download the files off a mirror, so I still have to look into that. It would be good if I could just use the 4 or 5 Debian DVD ISO's instead of setting up a 40GB mirror [Unless someone already has the media / data for that] Surya Sharma me(a)suryas.info 9920482321

hey everyone, Sorry for the seriously late intimation ;-). After a fun and productive event at CAMP this Sunday, Dr. Nagarjun is kindly hosting another session at HBCSE this evening 5 pm onwards. Just in case anyone can make it at such short notice, will be great, else we shall be posting pictures, videos and a report of the events shortly. Event Details: A seminar on Pad.ma and Firefox development will be held in Homi Bhabha Centre for Science education, TIFR on 23rd Tuesday evening at 5pm. Pad.ma is a full featured video archival website started as a collaboration between a number of groups (http://pad.ma/about). As a software project, the site uses completely open web and video technologies, significantly, the open source Theora video codec. Pad.ma has pushed the boundaries of what is possible with video on the web - being perhaps the first website to offer time-based annotations, server-side seeking to an arbitrary point in the video, partial clip download, client-side video encoding through the Firefogg browser plugin, alongwith full-text search through the video material. Jan, Sebastian and Sanjay will be talking on Pad.ma. Firefox does not need any Introduction. Mozilla Firefox is getting ready for the new Internet standard HTML 5, and the speakers from Mozilla Foundation will talk on what HTML5 means for the users and developers, what revolution is expected in terms of web applications. Seth, Arun and Axel will be speaking from Mozilla Foundation. The seminar will be informal and participants can interact with the guest speakers.
