If you install kde over gnome does it overwrite gdm? i mean does gnome work under kdm? I went through a few links under google but none could give me an answer!
Anything can work with anything; meaning you can have kdm and gnome or gdm and kde. The only thing is that you ought to select one default display manager from kdm and gdm if both are installed. It's easy to configure with debian since it simply asks you for the default when you install them.
Once you start any display manager (gdm/kdm/xdm) you can select the session, which could be anything; gnome, kde, xfce, etc.
