Lets check whether we can do it with Gnome 2.2. If not then we will have to opt for Gnome 2.
Gnome 2 was very buggy and unstable. suggest you stick to the standard knoppix distro. Changing packages and distributing the cd without thorough testing that too to newbies would be a horrible thing to do.
I agree with terrence's warning. But keep exploring the way of updating it to 2.2 gnome so that localization issues could also be handled. We will give our own custom CD some other time, not now without proper R&D and testing.
