Literally reading my mind. Without application operating systems is useless. Only reason why there are tens of thousand of old Novell server running legacy ERP applications are these applications run only on Novell netware

Those custom applications built for Windows can also be built for Linux/BSD systems. Only thing is that you have to invest in getting them developed. Sometimes there is no need for going into a new system/platform when the present system fulfils your requirements. Business applications are customised, so you can't have a "one-size-fits-all" thing.
