I did get the sound started but very low volume, almost not audible. That after I corrected
1. Mistaken port for the speaker pin 2. mixer : choice of hardware
I am still not happy. I dont know what is my mistake now. I will keep trying.

If you are sure your sound card is up then open the sound mixer and check for low volume levels or mute being on. Many a times, initially sound levels are down or muted.
