I came across this GTK based downloader for Linux. It's really fast loading and full-featured like the famous flashget for windows. You might want to try it out - http://www.krasu.ru/soft/chuchelo/ While wget is good, it lacks multiple stream downloading, and for Joes, a gui and a few more things like scheduling, b/w control etc etc.
Also there's a superb ad filter - bfilter - for linux. http://bfilter.sourceforge.net/ Its ad detection is heuristic in nature and hardly requires any fine tuning. Needless to say all the ads on my screen have vanished. As if that wasn't enough the author is planning on flash ad detection and removal. In fact its already in cvs. Try out whatever u like, stable or cvs.
