I am looking for a platform independent accounting application, built around open source components. The linux based accounting App was not only NOT OS but also tied to a particular platform. No can do. theoretically i should be able to run it on Windows, FreeBSD, Xandros, RH9, FC3 (both client and server)
So... Maybe a webbased accounting app with a mysql/postgreSQL backend seems to be the only solution for now. and it should be openSource ofcourse. It's a bummer that a web based app would mean doing away with the function keys. (true? false?)
Not necessarily. I'm not sure if Javascript can use function keys, but if it can, then "false".
Why the tie with function keys anyway?
I've offered a couple of times to write a web-based thingy, but I need domain experts to advise.
a) It seems that K.G. has a comprehensive open source accounting package out there, which could do with some testing, development and other help from the domain experts as well as technical folks.
One wonders why it hasn't taken off more. Maybe the domain experts on the list can shed some light?
The domain experts are too lazy and stuck in inertia. Now if we are starting on this project, I am on board (but I cant program) as Domain Expert :)
We have a choice of using AVSAP (not yet been able to load it on my laptop yet) or we can try to get Web-ERP or CK-ERP (both are very good) and modify them to Indian scenarios.
We are also trying out Compaire, but there seem to be some problem with database connection. Besides, Compaire only works on oracle, which I am not very happy about.
If we are starting on this project, who else will be ready to join up ?
