I'm running Debian (Woody and Sarge) on IBM eServers- the x335 and x365 models - without any problems. IBM do not offer tech support for Debian, but it works fine. However, I had to use a custom boot CD for installing Woody, because the installer did not have support for the SCSI and RAID controllers.
Debian installed on one IBM server X236, (SCSI) sarge. The drivers worked without a problem. However, I was unable to get the RaidMan utility that is the software needed to configure / control the RAID devices. I wanted the option to be notified via email when and if one of the disks die ....
So I'm looking for Branded servers that come with Hardware RAID and completely support Debian Sarge out of the box. With all RAID utility working etc.
There was another IBM Server 206 that came with SATA disks which did not work at all. After installing, it would get stuck (hang) at the Grub installation. Apparently it was some fake raid that was provided on BIOS.
I basically plan to use only Debian distro for my customers because of the Social Contract ... and no Trademark regulations / guidelines to worry about. So I wanted to get a list of branded servers that support Debian out of the box.
Apparently I get to understand that some of the HP servers do support Debian.
