Hi,
This is about vsnl's new smtp authentication settings. As usual, they have only given instructions for outlook, outlook express and eudora and netscape. The chap on the helpdesk phone had no clue whatsoever as to what to do with linux or even what sort of authentication they were using.
The authentication is plain text.
And u can use smtp only thru a vsnl dialup or leasedline connection or thru dishnet. The goal is to prevent spammers using vsnl as a relay. That legit vsnl users get spammed to death (90% in my case) is incomprehensible to the zombies who sit on the heldesk. Or that u may want to access your mailbox from from other locations. Or why users have to endure ads and flash animations for a paid service.
