Hi,
I don't trust LFY CD/DVDs.
This is speculation / knee-jerk reaction.. the OP needs to clearly communicate the symptoms and other observations before we conclude on whether its a rootkit OR bad media.
Isn't there a mediacheck option when booting from the Mandriva DVD?
There was....but I a newbie thought it was for checkin my HDD which I was sure was in perfect condition. Well, the symptoms reoccurred without loss of acoount thankfully.....a simple reboot did the job..... The messages from when I entered my username and password were as follows:[Not verbatim, they were to the same effect and AFAIRemember, these were those :) ]
1.Your home directory is listed as /home/easwarh but it doesn't seem to exist.Do you want to login with the root directory as your home directory? It's unlikely anything will work unless you do so. Options:Yes No.....I selected Yes and proceeded..... 2.$HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored.Your home directory /home/easwarh either doesn't exist or you are not the owner.Home directory should have 644 permissions and not be writable by other users. Options:Ok...I selected the only option available and proceeded.... My desktop background appeared and there was a dialog box at the top left corner which stated: 3.Couldn't start kconfig(or something like that). Options:Okay....I selected that button coz there was nothing else to click on!It sent me back to the login screen from where I rebooted and when I came back and logged in,everything was fine like a clear, sunny day.......
Regards, Easwar
