Looks like you've run out of disk space. Assuming you've got /tmp under /, do a df / and du /tmp, check the output and if the partition is full, free up spme space.

And then the X does not start .. I tried putting runlevel 5 in .initrc file. After which I got the initial login window but then I was not able to login to the system .. However I cud switch back to the command prompt .. The same (and only) error message is written in .xsessions-errors file in my home directory .. Please help me. Thanks in advance
