Hello, Everyone was over the moon when Sun accounced Java would be going GPL. We heard a lot of stuff from corporates, FSF, etc... but i didn't see much of a visible reaction from Sun's core development team, namely James Gosling. i just came across this, it seems a lot of developers wanted all of Java to be free as in freedom from day 1 and were pretty annoyed that it would not be so. Thus i did some searching and i found this quote from Gosling himself :
``I'm really happy we're finally getting it done (the only thing I'm unhappy about is how many complexities there are to take care of - don't worry, we'll get it done). No, I'm not job hunting: Sun is fun again! "

Oh, by the way Duke(Java's mascot) is Open Source as well, check out :

Interesting stuff. i've always admired Gosling, the Alpha Geek :-) i admit i was very dissappointed when i read that he had sold Gosling Emacs to some company, but i knew he still had hacker culture within him :-)
