But you dont have to worry about that, atleast not until you have to. Assuming you have large enough harddisk, you can play around with all these when you think you have to, and with some priliminary caution you will be able to alter one configuration to another in a running system. You can resize partitions, change their types, merge or split partition at will at nearly any stage. Just keep a knoppix CD handy.
Careful planning always help and all, and I am not discouraging that, just highlighting the enormous flexibility/potential/options you get when you chose Linux.
