Hi All,
First Hour:
- Chetan related his experience with recovering a partition table using
a tool called "gpart". Some discussion on MBR/partition tables etc.
- <Someone>(I don't remember his name) gave an intro to ipchains. Adding
rules. Rules syntax etc.
Possibly Terrence?
- Jaju explained the concept further and clarified some doubts about
"virtual ethernet interfaces"(?)
Thanks Chetan for your input.
Then there was an open discussion on Indianization of GNU/Linux. Dr. Nagarjun from HBCSE and Prof. Jitendra from VJTI talked about the presents projects going in that direction and status of few of the projects. Prof. Jitendra also invited luggers to participate and contribute to this on going projects.
There was also some free wheeling talk about affordable computing and various ways it can be implemented in terms of affordable hardware and softwares. Prof. Jitendra also pointed to a nice distribution called TinyLinux which could be used on old and outdated computers like 386 and 486.
Then we went for a tea break (Thanks Chetan and Jaju for tea and biscuits :-)) and luggers in small groups were discussing and exchanging cool tips with each other.
After tea break Navin Dhanuka put forward his proposal for organizing "GNUnify" event he is planning @ Symbiosis Institute, Pune, sometime in 1st week of Feb 2003. He discuss what he has in mind about this event and asked for input and feedback from the luggers about the event.
To build on the earlier talk on iptables and firewall by Terrence and Jaju, Dinesh Shah (that's me ;-)) related and summarized steps to create a floppy based firewall. Apparently there was great demand for this and luggers demanded that he should write a small HOWTO and put it on LUG site so all can benefit. He has promised that he will write such a doc :-). Keep your fingers crossed ;-).
We planned the next meet and Prof. Jitendra generously made an offer to host the next meet @ VJTI. The meet will take place on 12th Jan. 2003, and Amish Munshi promised that he will plan and coordinate this meet properly with agenda and speakers and other things will be taken care of well in advance.
Also Navin and Yashraj took lot of snaps of the meeting and pictures of the meet are available at URL given bellow.
He also said that he is going to plan next three meets in advance (Jan, Feb and Mar 2003). Also other luggers who made promises earlier about LUG activities renewed their promises!!! So expect a lot of action now...
Around 7 pm we concluded the meeting and some luggers went for one more round of tea out side IIT campus.
In all, even though we did not have large attendance in this meet, it was much livelier.
PS: Please post these minutes to LUG site after suitable review (http://db.ilug-bom.orf.in/lug-meetings/Dec-2002/)
