Why all this finger-pointing? I am an unhappy Windoze user thanks to some stupid company project; and I have to put up with the suffering everyday.
As for the Windows support et al. According to what their ads on TV say, Windows actually helps "start anything"... but mark my words, it also makes sure that whatever got started stops working. Don't believe me? Learn some C and have a look at the stolen code floating around on the Net.
Guys why the perpetual Windoze bashing? I am a Linux user hooked to my Linux system(s) 24x7 but I don't think its right to bash Windoze *all* the time. M$ does lie, cheat and extorts money from the users of "genuine" windoze but cut it some slack! It's after all a fool proof OS which IMHO GNU/Linux will never be. GNU/Linux won't ever reach the "ease" of Windoze because it needs intelligent users :) But there *is* something that GNU/Linux must learn from Windoze that when you're targetting the OS for an office/workplace environment then it must work out of the box. The users must not spend hours hacking the kernel to get something working or go through lengthy compilation process just to get a program going. I am very happy to see that most newer distros have shown significant improvement in this regards.
Would you put diesel in a petrol-driven car? You just can't throw hardware at GNU/Linux and expect things to work. Before you buy that new gizmo, make sure you have a look at the hardware compatibility lists. GNU/Linux delivers what it promises; if there's something it can't deliver, it doesn't promise.
Yeah, it's just that hardware vendors must make a Windoze driver otherwise their hardware wont survive in the market. Just try using an old scanner with windoze xp and see how much trouble you have getting it to work. I have a scanner which has XP drivers and is supposed to work correctly(according to M$'s website) but it doesn't. I have to yet come across a piece of hardware which Linux promises will work and it doesn't. Atleast with GNU/Linux you may be able to modify a newer driver to get it to work with the old scanner but in windoze there is no hope!
Why complain that Windows allows me to do this, and GNU/Linux doesn't allow me to do it? GNU/Linux and Windows are different; not clones. Besides that you'd be just complaining "there's no sauce on my burger". GNU/Linux world is a self-service world; make your own sauce and pour.
Hmm...maybe Gandhi or someone influenced it :) GNU/Linux incorporates the principle of Swawalamban (Self service?)
And JTD, get a life; choose a better subject line next time :P
Hehe, good one!
Regards, Dinesh
