On a serious note, of what use are these "+1" replies? Are the responses monitored? If I don't reply with "+1", am I going to be unsubscribed?
I think some people think members should particitate in the discussions and cannot remain silent. There was one incident of a silent member spamming the list and now some want to make sure every member responds by conducting a survey!
The simple solution is to ban the spammers, I don't think we should put the admins though more load than they already have.
Unless you write at least one to the list (in gmail with automatic addition to addressbook) the list address won't be in the addressbook (or you have to manually add it, very unlikely for the majority of members). And for this very small unlikely members the admins have to go through the pain of verifying every 1000+ members are active!
We are really innovative, and caring! and tolerant!
If people don't want to read discussions they don't like, can't they just ignore it? Is it too difficult to go through the subjects and pick what you want to read? Most of the clients have the threading functionality and shows only one line per discussion topic. Or are people concerned by bandwidth and disk space? Also there are so many options for participation, from individual mails, daily digest to read online.
It is a diverse list and we can't expect everyone to be uniform. Some are here for technical stuff alone and others are here for the community. We already have the list rules. And now 12 commandments, why put the admins with all these load? The list remains silent sometimes and heated debates happens sometimes, it all depends on members mood and interest, we have to accept we don't get all of what we wanted and move on.
Now if admins are happy doing it, I don't have a problem, either. Or as someone suggested earlier, if Harsha volunteers to do it, no problem.
Btw, this reply should have been on the other thread, but as our goal of breaking the record and Nadeem's mention of this point made me write this here.
But I'm happier in a flaming but live list that in a dead list.
