Nope. The "social service" i indulge in is an attempt to repay the community that so freely gives away it's best. But considering that u are grabbing the freebie known as GNU/Linux AND would like to known what it's in it for u i guess your description would apply very well to u.
I dont know how attending talks counts as repaying. And well I would really like to contribute to the community in terms of code and effort and i am doing all that i am capable of.. I have been tryin to convince my friends to switch linux, and have been tryin to solve their problems, so that they stick to it. But in terms of code m not that good enough to do that so that will take time...
And ya about that freebie grabber bit, i dont think u quite understood it right... I am not grabbing it witht knowing whats in it for me... I am grabbing because there is a lot in it for me, some of those things are 1. The amount of knowledge i gather in the process of learning it.. e.g. i learnt about XUL while figuring out stuff about firefox, i learnt about various parameters that affect a web server while using apache etc. etc. 2. Secondly, (and this i attribute to the one of the thigs that u said) i can use OS and software and give it to my friends for free with a clear conscience that m not breaking any laws in my country(which by the way is imp for me). 3. Its fun...
and i am not ashamed of this fact. So well think what u like post what u like, but I am out of this discussion.. i guess ur answer will be sarcastic thank u here but idc....
I really hope so.
I did, it was great... Hope u were there too..
