In Ubuntu , you will find a config file.. /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf
In this file, there is an option called "Usepeerdns" Just set the value value to "no". Should do it. I use fedora, and there is no such file in fedora, but I remember seeing it in Ubuntu Live CD some time back...post your feedback.
